Year: 2021

An early morning swim for Ellie at Westgate Bay. In fact we were so early the cafe wasn’t open. They were putting the tables out but decided it was too much effort to make us a coffee until the official opening time!

A nice afternoon in the garden.

Out early with Ellie again but as it was humid, we only went about half the normal distance as she was panting. We did see “greyhound man”, an elderly gent who lost his greyhound but walks every day giving all the other dogs treats. He is going to view another rescue greyhound today. I was pleased to hear that as he was heartbroken losing his other dog.

Down by the river the moorhen chicks are growing well. Two moorhens were having a fight on the river and it really looked as if they were going to drown each other. If they have too many chicks, they are known to drown them occasionally.

I went shopping, busy roads with holidaymakers. I took my car to be cleaned inside and out, long overdue and I couldn’t be bothered to do it myself!

The baby sparrows seem to like sitting on my sunflowers in the garden, I’m hoping they will be enjoying the seed soon.

Mal went to the allotment in the afternoon. All the vegetables for dinner were from the allotment, including the stuffed marrow and so many runner beans, I love them! All followed by blackcurrants and raspberries.

In the evening we watched the last of Clarkson’s Farm. What do we watch now?!

Ellie and I left home at 5.45 for a lovely walk. Surprisingly there are a lot of dog walkers out at that time and so we saw the little goldie and she had a play with him. The seagulls were getting their breakfast on the cricket pitch, doing their dance and bringing the worms to the surface.

We then went on to Gazen Salts.

Lunchtime I went to pick Jackie up and we went to the Jolly Farmer in Manston for lunch and time to sort out Hatters things for the future. We did quite well with a few trips and plans for our Christmas lunch.  We also booked to have our next meeting here as the food was rather good , we resisted desert!

We walked Ellie in the sun. I then had an appointment at QEQM Hospital for my eyes. I had to wait for over an hour until I was the last one there. I thought they had forgotten me!  Three of the nurses left for their lunch. Eventually the lady came out and said they only had one machine working. She could have told me that earlier.

I did the tests and evidently that is in preparation for my follow up appointment in September.

We had our boiler serviced in the afternoon.  We tried three gas fitters on Check a trade and they didn’t bother getting back to us. We happened to be driving back from Deal when we drove past a shop of an established gas firm, R G Williams of Walmer. No problem, yes and £60, they have a special offer on for 6 weeks in the summer. He was very good. We will be using them again. When one of the “check a traders” did get back to us, he quoted £120!

Here is Sprout, the guide dog I am sponsoring, still in training.

A very wet walk with Ellie.

Thankfully the rain cleared by the evening and we went to Broadstairs Folk Week to the main arena to watch Merry Hell. We were surprised that it wasn’t packed out and we even parked just outside! I think people are still scared of going out. So, we sat right at the front, plenty of space to stretch out in the field. We took our own seats and coats etc but it didn’t get that cold.

Merry Hell were as good as ever in spite of their not performing for so long.

Driving back home, everywhere was dead and it was only 10pm!

Lou, Ollie, Oscar and Josie came round for Sunday lunch. They went to pick things from the allotment first while I finished the cooking.

It is quite easy not to realise what is surrounding where you live, so today for the first time we went to East Kent Railway for a train ride! It was built for the miners at the Kent Colliery and has been restored by enthusiasts. Saturdays and Sundays you can have a ride from Shepherdswell to Eythorne. Of course we took Ellie with us. She has been on boats and a plane but never on a train. She wasn’t very impressed to start with and shook but then settled and she certainly liked the walk around The Knees Woodland which is adjacent. We also had coffee in the Colonel’s cafe and one of the staff fell in love with her and said we could take her on his miniature railway as well but we declined. I think she had enough!

We had a first class carriage!

Later, so nice to be watching football again and well done Leicester City!

Thought for the Day – “We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some have yachts, some canoes and some are drowning. Just be kind and help whoever you can.”
