Wednesday 31st July 2024

I took Ellie out for her walk very early to avoid the heat.

We then became hooked on the Women’s triathlon…it wore us out watching it! Well done for the Bronze medal Beth Potter. Even better the finish by Yee in the men’s. Sad that Nadal and Alcaraz are out.

Mal went to the allotment and I started some of the woodwork painting (Mal had started sanding it down.) Bit by bit in this weather.

Tuesday 30th July 2024

Today is Tariq’s birthday (25) and also my two nieces Julie and Wendy. Happy birthday to the three of you.

Maybe the hottest day of the year so far and ideal for going to the dentist . I saw Danya again and she had the first impression for my plate. Of course this is the rubbery one and then I have to go for the next fitting. All good until she told me that she is leaving to work in the hospital, so I have to see someone else next time!! That will be the 7th dentist I have seen at this practice.  All the good ones go. How disappointing.

A rather warm day and Ellie’s answer….
Yes that is her cool mat behind the fan…she doesn’t like it!!

Monday 29th July 2024

My volunteer day at Cancer Research. We were surprisingly busy in spite of the heat but it was quite cool in the shop with the fans on.  We try to get people donating, to sign up as Gift Aiders, which means explaining to them the fact that we get 25% extra when we sell goods. I was in the middle of explaining this to one man who snapped and said “If you don’t want this I will go and put it in a bin!”  Oh dear, we do get some grumpy people. Also shop lifters were out in force as well. That’s sad taking things from a charity shop.

On the positive side of Birchington, it is a lovely community and at the moment have a “seagull trail” for the kids to join in with . Penny, one of my Red Hatters actually crocheted 12 of the seagulls used! The local ladies also decorate the post boxes.

While I was at work Mal booked us tickets for Jools Hollands concert next year!

Saturday 27th July 2024

I went shopping and speaking to one of the assistants in a dress shop at Westwood, she told me they had never had such huge sales as obviously a lot of the summer stock hadn’t sold because of the weather!

I then tackled all the washing, which included Ellie’s blankets I take with us. A lot of sand in the washing too! All the towels as they don’t provide them in caravans (they do in lodges!) and of course in lodges you have a washing machine. At least everything dried.

Mal went to the allotment and returned with courgettes and the first runner beans.

Friday 26th July 2024

We packed our things up and then went for a long walk along Greatstone Beach. It was a lovely morning.

We stopped in Hythe on the way home and had our lunch in a place we hadn’t tried before, a really nice family owned cafe, Brooks.

Eventually home and discovered the garden hadn’t done too badly without being watered but then it had rained once or twice.

Thursday 25th July 2024

We went for a walk around the country park. We then decided to return to The Pilot for lunch. Their fish is just so good there. Plus it was threatening rain.

This time I had to have the skate. It was so huge, a good thing Ellie was with us, so she shared it and Mal had to eat most of my chips!

In the evening it was raining and so we sat and played cards.
