Such a lovely day again, so we took Ellie to Wingham for a walk.
The bluebells in the woods are now being swallowed up by stinging nettles. As we walked around the edge of the wood and into the orchards, the farmers have fitted a variety of sizes of “doors” in the fencing, for the wildlife. So nice to see.
Then we had a quiet rest in Elgar’s Field. By this time Ellie was getting hot and she doesn’t like the heat.
It was the bikers “Meltdown” in Margate, when all the bikers come from the Ace Cafe in London, so we thought we would stay away from that. In fact it was unofficial as the Ace cafe cancelled but the bikers still came. Instead we went to the allotment as there is so much work to do there. I have four compost bins in my allotment and they are full, so Mal built another today while I weeded.
So many broad beans already, the peas are coming along and the gooseberries. We have so much rhubarb we are going to have to start giving it to the neighbours!
And our allotment neighbour Colin knows how much I love asparagus and we have to wait for next year for ours, so he gave me this.

Paula and Jilly had to be out of the caravan by 10 am so I drove over to Birchington, on the way stopping at the butchers to buy another turkey breast roast to put in the freezer.
They were all packed when I arrived at the caravan and they were coming back to our house and then travelling from Sandwich station. We had plenty of time, so we walked around Sandwich, down by the quay, along the river and through the town.
Jilly has never seen Sandwich before and loved it. Back home for a cuppa and then Paula decided instead of Sandwich, they changed their minds and were going from Birchington so I had to drive them all the way back there.

Paula’s birthday and so Lou and Rhys joined us for lunch at ours. They picked the girls up on the way.
We were hoping to eat outside but there were black clouds. Indoors to eat and then outside later, when the sun was quite hot!
We reminisced about Paula’s 50th birthday. We invited her to come to Cyprus with us for her 50th and we did have fun! I went back on this diary to 2003 and read it back to her. There were odd things in there we had forgotten. Nice to have such funny memories. A lot of people complain that I am always taking photos but they now realise how valuable some of them are.
I am sure they both enjoyed themselves, a few bottles of wine later! I drove them back to the caravan early evening. They were both quite wobbly. Of course I was driving so hadn’t been drinking.
What a shame for Man United and I imagine DeGea is feeling dreadful.

Mal and I walked Ellie and at the end we called in at Sandwich caravan park. Paula was interested in case she wanted to come with friends again. We hadn’t thought of it as we thought it was residential and camping. But they do have caravans to let.
I collected Paula and Jilly at their caravan. They wanted to go to Margate and Broadstairs. Margate first and it was very windy on the sea front. A walk along the sea front and then around the “hipster” shops. Most are shut Monday and Tuesday! We drove along the sea front to the Walpole Bay Hotel for a cuppa. It’s a rather old fashioned and unique hotel.
I then took them to Botany Bay but it was bucketing with rain by then so on to Broadstairs!
They both wanted “proper” seaside fish and chips. The weather wasn’t reliable enough to eat outside and so we went to The Mermaid Fish bar.
They have a very good menu and also has fresh skate which I love!! It was huge and I had to leave most of the batter and most of the chips but the skate was so good.
A walk around Broadstairs and then they wanted to go back to the caravan, exhausted!
