Ellie and I were out walking early again.

We met the same couple and their dogs from St George’s Road that we have seen all this week. They usually walk their dogs down the bay but of course that is not possible this week. They were on a cruise that stopped off in Tokyo January, just before the Covid outbreak but their travels finished just in time!  The next cruisers ended up stuck on the ship for months.

Mal spent the morning at the allotment until it became too hot! We spent the afternoon in the garden. I do have some sunflowers in spite of the snails and slugs even though they are still shredding the leaves!

And back to the golf…….in today’s paper…..

Ellie and I were up and out by 6am and Sandwich was already buzzing with 8 carriage trains (never seen here at any other time!) Double decker shuttle buses full to capacity trying to manoeuvre our narrow streets and many walking down to the bay for the Open. We all now call Sandwich “Cone City” because the whole town is now covered in traffic no parking cones, even at roundabouts and crossings!! Of course I forgot to mention the helicopters and private planes overhead. Chaos and traffic jams, even that early. The only reason I have empty streets was when the train was going across the level crossing! I won’t be using my car until Monday!

Whilst I was out walking a lady spoke to Ellie and knew her name. She then went on to tell me that about a year ago, she presumed my husband, had asked if she was OK as she was walking along crying! She had just lost her dog and so Mal had stayed and chatted to her and said when she had enough time to grieve, to think about a rescue, so many needed homes. At the time she said she would never have another dog (don’t we all?!) She said after a couple of months she thought about what he said and just started looking online at various websites. A few months later she saw a “beautiful Labrador looking” dog on a Spanish website. She enquired and they had someone in the UK and did a home check, so she rescued the dog and wanted me to thank Mal as she she said he is perfect but NOT a Labrador and he now weighs 10 stone!! She was so grateful. That’s nice.

Broadstairs Folk Week is going ahead and we have managed to get tickets for Merry Hell, excellent.

We both spent the morning at the allotment.

I started freezing some fruit as we are getting so much.

I did wonder why they had armed police in Sandwich, evidently Princess Anne was watching the golf! And here is Niall Horan in the town.

Rhys sent me a lovely photo from his early morning run.

I was up and out with Ellie early too.

It was my appointment with Maxillofacial in Dover, which Lou drove me to.  This is the lady, Ann, that I should have seen three years ago! Centralisation of the appointment system messed up, sending me to William Harvey Hospital and  Canterbury hospital when Dover clinic was the one I should have been referred to. What can I say at least now I have someone who knows what they are doing.

I had more X rays and Ann went through all the explanation of everything. Smoking hasn’t helped (I gave up many years ago) but she also said it could be hereditary or stress. I told her stress from losing Torin was the start of all of this. I have two loose bottom teeth which she wants me to have removed before I have my next appointment with her and I have four one hour appointments booked starting in October. She has told me to eat before I go as my mouth will be too painful afterwards, excessive bleeding and 2 -3 weeks gum pain…..I can’t wait! The four appointments and then she will reassess. She sounds extremely professional and knows what she is doing unlike the two hospitals and I am relieved she “has a plan” which is what the dentist told me three years ago.

Of course the roads in Sandwich are chaos. 32,000 golf fans per day does make a huge difference! I have heard Niall Horan (One Direction) is in town along with many other famous faces.

Oh no, later a phone call from Lou. Ollie has been sent home from school to isolate for 10 days. He hasn’t tested positive but the boy who sits next to him has. That’s the end of our crazy golf on Saturday!

It’s no surprise that there is a Covid outbreak on HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Navy’s flagship as we had already heard many Marines have gone down with it, including Tariq who is now in isolation. We spoke to him on Sunday night. Get well soon Tariq.

Ellie and I walked early, I believed it was going to be warmer today…not a lot!

I went into Deal, managing to avoid most of the “Open” traffic. Of course I had to go to the fishmongers. That’s my lunch sorted.

In the afternoon we went to the allotment, so much to do. Mal stayed when I came home as he had a meeting of the allotment committee.

We walked Ellie along the river and then into the town because although people said it would be busy we needed to get things but it was like a ghost town. I guess all 32,000 must be watching the golf.

I popped into Pilgrim’s Hospice charity shop and started chatting, they are short of volunteers and have given me an application form! I’ll think about it.

I went to clean up Torin’s grave and dead head all the roses. There was an ants nest and they decided to climb all over me and bite!

In the afternoon Sol sent me a video of their new cottage. They have moved to the Ribble Valley, a job too good for him to refuse. They are renting the cottage for now, on a farm. They have cows for neighbours. A little different from what they are used to in Whitstable!

A wet walk with Ellie and it seems people’s spirits are a little dampened too after last night. Ah well,  just a warm up for the World Cup!

The rain cleared and so we went to the allotment. Loads more fruit, peas and potatoes. I also picked some gladioli to take home. Some of my flower garden is wild flowers and the bees are loving it. We chatted to Steve (allotment behind) and he told us everyone was getting potato blight, well our potatoes haven’t!

Mal and I went to the allotment in the morning, of course with Ellie.

We watched the first set of the tennis final and then went to Rhys’s for a BBQ.

Of course we watched the football………..enough said!
