And so it begins! Sandwich will now be swamped with Golf visitors.

Oscar is 13 today, happy birthday! We arranged to meet up at Quex Park where Lou had booked crazy golf for us all. It was raining so we thought they may cancel but no us Brits are tougher than that! We played in torrential rain, 11 holes until the puddles became too deep! But we laughed so much.

As we handed the golf clubs and balls back in and explained we couldn’t continue because the puddles were too deep, they very kindly said they would rebook us for next Saturday!! That was really good of them.

Our “waterproof” macs weren’t quite as waterproof as we thought! We drove to the Minnis fish and chip shop and grabbed a couple of tables there and they even had skate, which was delicious! We had a lovely time and I hope Oscar did too. Funny how a dismal day can turn into a lot of fun.

I didn’t realise that I still had rain on the lens!

I checked my emails when we arrived home and having decided we really do want to see Hairspray, we asked them to move our tickets. They have sent new tickets for September. Let’s hope that happens!

Ellie and I went for our walk early and we met Wicky, a four month old Goldie. We have met him before and they enjoy chasing around the field together.

Mal went to the allotment and I met Jackie for lunch. We don’t get a chance to chat when we are at Hatters, there is too much going on, so it was nice to have a relaxing lunch and chat. We went to the Bell at Minster as they had skate on their online menu but they didn’t have any when we ordered! We should have gone somewhere else! I was so looking forward to skate.

Back home and a very good Djokovic v Shapovalov match. I am sure Shapovalov has a very bright future.

It took me a long time to get to sleep the previous night as I was very excited about the football!  The last time I was this excited about football was 1966 and I was actually in Germany at the time staying with Gerrit and I remember her dad didn’t speak to me for 4 days because he did not like the result! 55 years on and I still remember!

I went to get some shopping as 11th -18th is St George’s Open golf and it will be difficult to get in and out of Sandwich. The toll bridge will be closed. This morning they are out putting pretty pictures on all the lamp posts even as far as Pfizer. Also all the AA signs are all going up.  Beautiful flowers everywhere, even the roundabouts on the bypass. A week residents do not look forward to.

Westwood was not very busy.

Mal went to the allotment in the afternoon. I cleaned fruit and vegetables. So many raspberries and loganberries.

Our day out in London. Although Hairspray was cancelled we still had our 3 course champagne lunch at The Savoy that Maddie and River bought me for my birthday! We drove Ellie over to Lou and Rhys’s and Lou ran us to the station.

In London and it was a nice day and so we walked to the Savoy.

We had a really lovely meal.

After lunch we walked to Covent Garden. There weren’t so many stalls there and not as many people as usual. It all seemed very strange.

We spent the afternoon wandering around. We walked past the theatre we should have been going to, all closed up!

Had a coffee at St. Martins in the Field. Well, if Mal will pull silly faces!

We then tried our best to avoid Trafalgar Square where they were preparing for the evenings football with so many police and crowd control!

We are both Londoners and love just wandering the streets and people watching in the parks.

Then a walk past Buck Palace

and time to catch the train back. We managed to fill the afternoon very well. Years ago, pre the kids, I would wander London every weekend. It has changed considerably since those days.

On the train and we watched the first half of the England game. Lou picked us up during half time and so we spent the rest of the match watching with Lou, Rhys and the kids…………………we were VERY happy at the result!!

Mal and I took Ellie for a very gusty, windy walk while Paula was packing.

I took her to the station just before lunch.

I caught up with all the housework and washing in the afternoon.

In the evening we watched the football. So, we will be playing Italy!

Mal and I took Ellie to the park in Ramsgate and of course stopped at Alison’s Kiosk for a coffee. Ellie enjoyed seeing all the other dogs.

Back home and Paula wanted to go to Westwood. We shopped there and I also returned some online things I had ordered from Next. I really don’t like online shopping and not being able to try things on in shops.

After lunch I looked at my emails and found this:

Everyone at both the London Coliseum and in the Hairspray team are so sorry that this means these performances cannot go ahead. If you booked directly with the London Coliseum, please contact hairspray@eno.org so that they can help you to book for an alternative performance of your choice.

We were due to go on Wednesday and this was part of my 70th birthday present and was of course cancelled last year………I think we will give up now! I am so disappointed.

More tennis in the afternoon, such a shame Emma Raducanu had to pull out.

Ellie had a very short walk, she seemed exhausted from her busy day yesterday!

We went out for Sunday lunch and went to the Fitz (Filtzwalter Arms) in Goodnestone. We had a lovely roast and Paula persuaded us to have dessert and we all had a very good lemon cheesecake. We preferred to eat outside.

We sat in the garden in the afternoon.
