Month: July 2021

The weather forecast told us it would rain most of the day, so we were up early and had a good walk on Westgate Bay with black clouds over head but we missed the rain!

Back home and the weather forecast had changed for the better but it was nice being at the beach!

We prepared the bedrooms for Ollie, Oscar and Josie coming to stay tomorrow.

More to do at the allotment.

Thought for the Day – “Any fool can criticise, complain and condemn – and most fools do. But it takes character and self -control to be understanding and forgiving.”

I went shopping while Mal took Ellie. I don’t understand people, starting to panic buy again!

There were quite a lot of these signs around Sainsburys, all because of the Pingdemic!

I received my very detailed letter from maxillofacial, which is sent to my dentist as well. I will now have to contact my dentist to arrange to have two teeth removed.

Torin’s birthday

It doesn’t get any less painful. We miss him. Lou, Rhys and Josie came round and they took some flowers to the cemetery for him and then we all went to the Crispin for lunch and to raise a glass of Guiness (family tradition) to him.

Mal decided he would get up early too, so we drove to West Bay, Westgate before it became too hot. Of course Ellie loved it in the sea. We met a lady with FOUR huge Newfoundlands. Most dogs on the beach were keeping away from them but Ellie didn’t care, she is too laid back.

Mal threw the ball out a very long way and Ellie decided she couldn’t be bothered to get it and so Mal paddled in the water to go and fetch it! They both cooled off!

The rest of the morning was spent at the allotment, me watering mostly until it was just too hot, so we came home.

I walked Ellie at 6am again, just as I always did in the summer in Cyprus, talking of which, it amuses me there are “Severe heat warnings”. My goodness it would reach 50 deg c in Cyprus! You just act accordingly, mind you we did have our own pool then.

We have been debating whether to get annual tickets for Howletts Zoo and/or Wingham Wildlife Park. We also promised to buy Mal’s sister a ticket. We decided on Wingham Wildlife, less distance to cover for Mal’s sister. I also wonder what they are doing with Howletts. They are getting rid of their elephants and the charities commission is getting involved, also Carrie Symonds now works for them.

So, we went and bought our passes, having booked of course! It was hot and so most of the animals were in the cool and sleeping.  But we did get to see my favourite orangutans. They all seem to have lots of blankets which they hide under but we managed to see one of them.

Of course we had to have an ice cream!

Now he doesn’t have to wear a mask in the barbers , Mal had his hair cut on the way home!

Ellie and I walked early and the town was quiet at last!

I went shopping, safe to take my car in and out of Sandwich! A real mix of some wearing masks and others were not whilst shopping but it was obvious the holidaymakers have now arrived.

Petrol has gone up again!

Mal went allotmenting in the afternoon. Lots more raspberries.

It is flying ant day, at least it is around here. The seagulls love them. “What is flying ants day? … This is great news for seagulls, because scientists have suggested the ants produce an acid that gets the birds “slightly” drunk – and – and an RSPB gull expert has said gulls are ‘mad for them’ and gobble them up like ‘M&Ms’, which can cause them to be even more excitable than usual.”

Ellie and I walked along Rope Walk, along with several Open supporters. That was 6am! You can tell them by their “uniform” of polo shirt, shorts, cap and rucksack on their back! The traffic at St George’s Road was queueing too. I didn’t think tee off was until at least 8.30!

Mal and I went to the allotment. I came back earlier than him as it was so hot. I tried watering but the pressure was so low as we are at the end of the run. We thought going early would be good but it seems everyone thought the same. I picked more raspberries and peas. The marrows are doing well.

An amusing photo from today’s “Open”

And now that’s it for another 10 years!
