We walked Ellie before the rain started. We called into the Co op while we were out. The rest of the day was indoors, not much else to do outside in the bad weather.

I went shopping while Mal walked Ellie. I thought I would get it done before the storms come tomorrow.

In the afternoon we went to the allotment to make sure everything was secure. One lot of rhubarb is coming along well.

In the evening we jointly prepared a 3 course meal with champagne. We didn’t want to go out, much cosier at home and we can eat out anytime when restaurants don’t overcharge! Everything has become far too commercialised and maybe people forget what it is all about (Valentine’s day).

I think we should give up listening to the weather forecast! We took Ellie when it should not have been raining. Yes, it was sunny at the start and then it poured down. A quick dry off for Ellie and then Mal and I went to the wood yard. I say the wood yard but it is ‘A Skip hire’. They have free wood and anyone can collect it. So today we collected some for the allotment including one pallet. BUT as we were picking it, it poured with rain so we didn’t collect as much as we wanted, another day! Mal has got a cold so it wasn’t sensible to hang around too long in the rain. We dropped it off at the allotment and checked that Mal’s shed roof was still in tact before Storm Dennis arrives.

It was a soup day so I made vegetable soup for lunch with warm olive ciabatta. A nice winter lunch.

We sorted through some seeds in the afternoon.

We walked Ellie in the sun but it was still a cold wind.

I met the Red Hatters for lunch at The Bell Inn in Minster. It was a nice lunchtime even though the food wasn’t that good but the company was.

We took Ellie for a lovely walk but it was a bitter wind.

I then went to meet Rhys for lunch. It seems ages since I have seen him, he always seems to be working. We had a nice lunch together and then went round some of the shops. We both said that it really seemed so quiet at Westwood, a little like Canterbury the previous day. Is everyone shopping online nowadays?

It was still very windy when I arrived home and so I suggested that we went to the allotment to see if there was any storm damage. The wind by then was so cold and we discovered half of Mal’s shed roof had blown away and the door broken and all his tools and the entire shed contents were exposed. Also one of the fences in my allotment was down. We spent ages looking for the missing half of the roof. It’s surprising how far it had travelled but Mal managed to find it and then we spent until it was dark, trying to secure it, with the wind working against us. I was frozen by the time we were home.

Demelza day. We again were not very busy. Colin, Heather’s husband called into the shop in the afternoon so we had a chat. How very sad.

Thank goodness we flew back yesterday. The wind from storm Ciara is quite bad with tiles flying off houses and fences falling down around us.

Lou and the kids came round but it certainly wasn’t a day to go to the allotment! I cooked a roast.

We spent the rest of the day catching up with things.
