Saturday 8th February 2020

The day we leave. I have to say apart from the Brazilian restaurant, everything else was perfect. The rooms were huge with plenty of drawers and hanging space. Everything was spotlessly clean and the staff were all lovely. The food and drink….well, we enjoyed them both.

We flew back home with Lou collecting us from Gatwick. A pleasant flight.  It was nice to get to Lou and Rhys’s house and have a cup of tea. We collected Ellie and my car and went home.

I think Ellie was pleased to be back and find her teddy waiting for her!

We unpacked and then it seemed really odd having to think what to have for dinner! We have been spoilt.

Friday 7th February 2020

We had our breakfast and then caught the shuttle bus to Mdina. Mdina is one of Europe’s finest examples of an ancient walled city and extraordinary in its mix of medieval and baroque architecture. A really fascinating city to walk round and the Silent City.

We visited the Museum first and there were some really interesting exhibits in there. From there we wandered the streets and St Paul’s cathedral.

Next into Rabat (next door) where we visited St Paul’s Catacombs.

We also went to the Roman Villa.

In the evening back at the hotel, we ate in the Italian restaurant which was really good and then went to the Dome for the evenings entertainment. We joined in with the quiz and even managed to answer things like Mariana’s Trench but we didn’t win!
This was followed by another good show.

Following that back to the room to pack.

Thursday 6th February 2020

We took the long walk up the hill to Mellieha village to see the sights up there. First we went into the World War 2 tunnels. The man who takes the entrance fee was evidently using these tunnels when he was 8 years old. It was interesting to read that if anyone wanted their own space, they were allowed to dig an area of 6 foot by 6 foot!

From there we went to Our Lady of the Grotto. There are a lot of steps up and down these places!

We then went to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mellieha, one of the worldwide Marian shrines. An intriguing place. A lot to look at and read in here, also a lot of wealth.

It really was a lovely little village and well worth the strenuous walk up the hill!

Wednesday 5th February 2020

We went out for a long walk , the sea was rough and it was really windy so it wasn’t as long as we planned so spent the afternoon in the hotel playing cards.

We booked to eat in the Asian restaurant and very good it was too.

The entertainment in the evening, following the quiz, was Latino.

Our all inclusive included all our drink too.

Tuesday 4th February 2020

Some good news, having left my car with Lou and Rhys to take to their garage for a service and MOT, they contacted us to say it had passed the MOT, just needed a new tyre. We were surprised that is all that needed to be done.

After breakfast we walked to Popeye’s village. I can’t say we were that impressed but it was a nice view from the side of the village.

We did a lot of walking.

On our return to the hotel we discovered that our safe wouldn’t lock so we reported it to reception. They came to repair it in 10 minutes! We were impressed with their speed in responding.

It was so windy out that we stayed around the hotel until dinner playing cards. After dinner we went into The Dome for the evenings entertainment.

Monday 3rd February 2020

We were up early and went for a walk and ended up in ……….

The first thing we spotted (and Mal nearly trod on ) was this lovely chameleon.

I used to love watching them in Cyprus, at least this one didn’t spit at us! We did search for orchids but I think it was a little early for Malta. I know they are out in February in Cyprus. There was a party of school kids with work sheets and they all wanted to chat to us, their teacher included, of course in very good English.

We spent a while in the quiet at the top of the forest for thoughts of Heather.

On the way back to the hotel we bumped into Lynn and Dave and so went and had lunch with them and later dinner with them too. For dinner, amongst many other things, the chef was cooking masses of King Prawns in garlic butter. I think I ate my body weight in King Prawns!

Sunday 2nd February 2020

We went to the welcome meeting  and met a nice couple Lynn and Dave and sat and chatted to them for the rest of the day.

It seems they don’t do much, not very adventurous, didn’t go to any of the shows, nor the trips or the specialist restaurants and obviously we wanted to do and see more. I was in my element with the food as every meal there was a huge choice of fish and shellfish for both lunch and dinner. It was all buffet style so I had so much fish!

We made a decision that night that although Lynn and Dave were very nice, time to break away and have a holiday!

We also booked for three of the specialist restaurants. Having said that the food in the main restaurant, you couldn’t want for more variety.
