Lou, Rhys and the littlies came round for lunch, so I spent the morning in the kitchen. English apples are now in the shops and so I made apple crumble as well as a trifle.  I put cinammon and cloves in it and add ground almond to the crumble. It was delicious.  It was so nice that we ate outside and even had to put the umbrella up!

They brought their dog Roddy round with them and so after lunch we went for a walk around Sandwich and to Gazen Salts.

We ended up back in town and so called in for a drink in the Crispin.

I was woken up by sirens blaring in the distance. I am guessing it was the fire on the Industrial area at Westwood as I found out later there were 10 fire engines and two height vehicles in attendance. The smoke is spreading across Thanet (Margate area). People may not be aware that area is the Isle of Thanet , simply because it used to be an isle!

After taking Ellie Mal went to the allotment, loads more raspberries and of course a lot of vegetables. In the evening we went to the Gulbenkian Theatre, which is at Kent Uni. Of course it was Freshers weekend so a lot of nervous students hanging around! I remember when I worked at Christ Church Uni I had to work every Freshers weekend.

We went to see Daphne’s Flight. I thought it would be a sell out. It was last time we saw them. I guess although they are part of “Folk in the Barn”, they don’t have a genre, a bit is folk but a lot of very different music but all of it was excellent. Christine Collister has the most amazing blues voice. To be honest they all have excellent voices, all very different. We both really enjoyed it and didn’t want it to end.

I think we are making the most of the end of summer and so we went to Stone Bay with Ellie. The tide was a long way out but Ellie still liked playing in the rock pools and rolling in the sand.

Mal decided we would go out to lunch so we took Ellie with us and walked to the Crispin. I had to book the Hatters next meal there anyway. We sat outside by the river and ate our delicious Caribbean food. Ellie just lies next to the table, bless her. Terry the landlord certainly has a sense of humour but as he has said to us before, customers spread right across the footpath and are in everyone’s way.

I am suffering with a heavy cold, so far better to get out and do things. I think the chillies in my lunch may have helped!  I just hope I haven’t passed it on to Rhys as I had it when I met him for lunch.

Another warm and sunny day, so we took Ellie out. Rhys is doing a school run to Westwood and often stays around there in the afternoon after going to the gym, so today I arranged to meet him. We went and had lunch together and then had a wander around the shops. It was nice chatting with him as he is normally so busy.

We talked about Torin too, we both understand each other more than anyone else.

In the evening I caught up with Bodyguard on the TV.

We (Red Hatters) had booked to see Calendar Girls at the Marlowe in Canterbury. We also managed to get Fran, from work, a ticket too, right next to us, one ticket left! Well, we laughed and laughed and we hadn’t imagined it would be so very good.  There were some famous actors/actresses in it including Fern Britten and Ruth Madoc.

Not very good photos of us, it was too dark and we weren’t really allowed to use cameras in there so I didn’t want to use flash!

Ellie and I were up early and went for a long river walk. I saw a bird sitting on a buoy in the river and thought if I took a photo of it Torin would tell me what it was. He knew so much about nature and always surprised us his depth of knowledge. It’s sad when you realise it is no longer possible. It’s moments like this that catch you out.

Mal and I decided to go to Howletts. The lady on the till told us there was a baby African elephant born yesterday, so we went to where the elephants were. The herd was quite agitated because of the new addition. We waited for two hours and eventually the keepers managed to coax them all outside. Here they are trying to get them into the paddock.

We are so very lucky seeing him so young.

Arina , the Siberian tiger was another we saw on her first public appearance which is probably why I have such a soft spot for her. No photos of her today she was too busy sunning herself very high up.

The good thing about Howletts is that they are all endangered species, so such good news there is a new addition.

We spent some time watching the gorillas too.

Mal went off to a meeting in the evening and came back with all the news concerning Sandwich.

Demelza day. Jack is on holiday in Italy so he sent me a video of where he is staying….very nice. So, I sent him photos back of all of us working hard…ha ha!!

Lunchtime I popped over to Tesco as at the moment they have litres of Bombay Sapphire gin for £20!!  I had to get one at that price.

Mal had dinner ready for me when I arrived home.
