Ramsgate Red Hatters Reinvented arranged a day out to Downton Abbey, well actually it is Highclere Castle. We were all looking forward to a nice day out until Rosemary and I heard we would be picked up at Minster at 6am!! It was one of those coach trips where we were on a feeder coach and we had to go all round the houses picking everyone up. So, in all it took 5 hours to get there!
I have to say people were fascinated seeing us in our Hatters gear. We even met another Red Hatter from Torquay! Many people stopped to talk to us. and I feel there may be a few new recruits in the offing.
We toured the castle and then went around their Egyptian Exhibition which was really interesting. In between we had our lunch. For a touristy place like that, I have to say it was a good meal. It was such a lovely sunny afternoon that we sat in the grounds and all had a cream tea. It was nice apart from the many wasps after our jam!

We had a really nice day with a lot of laughs even if it was a lot of travelling.
Once I was home I went on to Facebook only to discover that one of us Hatters, Jean, had died that very morning. She had been too ill to come to the last two meetings and on the journey home Jackie and I planned a visit to the hospice to see her on Friday. Sadly not to be. She will be missed so much, really the life and soul in spite of being 82 and having been in a lot of pain for many months. She always made a point of asking me exactly how I was all the time since I lost Torin and she totally understood.
Rest In Peace, pain free, our one and only Duchess.

Thought for the Day – “Friends are forever, you might lose them but you will never forget them.”
