Lou said she had a couple of bits missing for Christmas day and so we took over the things like a couple of chairs. From there we went on to Reculver. It’s usually blowing and very cold but was quite warm for a change.

On the way back we stopped at Sainsbury’s it is hard to know when the supermarkets will be busy but this year it seems fresh food doesn’t have a very long date on it which means you have to keep going back to get things like salad. Yes, it was busy but I managed to get all I wanted. 

My niece had a Tesco delivery yesterday and the delivery man told her they have changed things this year and all the long date items are sent for home delivery and the shorter dates are left in the shop….so that’s what is happening!! Perhaps home delivery would have been better. Too late now.

We watched Hammers in the afternoon..they lost and followed by a much better game…Spurs who won!

We took Ellie out and then the Monday gang from Demelza had arranged to meet up for pre Christmas lunch. Lauren was ill which meant Jack couldn’t join us as he only had two volunteers in the shop who he couldn’t leave on their own. Petro came for a quick drink in the shop but wasn’t staying as he had a swollen face and awful tooth ache. But he did try on some of the ladies hats before he left!…crazy Petro!

So it meant that it was just Heather, Linda and I. We went to the pub just along the road and it was heaving…what did we expect the Friday before Christmas? But we did manage to get some lunch and drinks and had a really good chat which we never seem to do at work as customers get in the way!

Canterbury was really busy and I was glad to leave.

It was rather dull and a little misty but we still went to Botany Bay with Ellie. There are always lots of dog walkers down there. Of course Ellie swam and had fun burying her ball!

 

From there we went on to see Marion, Mal’s sister, to deliver her Christmas present. She is disabled but copes really well. She made us tea and made a real fuss of Ellie. She used to have her own dog but could no longer look after one.

After a rather muddy walk with Ellie Mal and I went to Asda to buy drink for over the festive period. At the front of the store they had brussels, broccoli, parsnips and carrots all for 20p!!! Previous years fresh vegetable prices seem to escalate just before Christmas. I don’t know what has happened this year! Tesco are also doing similar deals for 29p. 

In the afternoon we watched a couple of Christmas films with the log burner roaring. The only trouble with that is that it sends you to sleep if it gets too warm! Very cosy and I think we enjoy a bit of “boring” for a change! Ellie was very content on the sofa!

It was cold and frosty but the sun came out and so we went to Minnis Bay with Ellie. Crazy dog loves it in the cold sea….she never swam in the Med but she really did not like the heat at all in north Cyprus. 

We were selling off a lot of the Christmas decorations in the shop yesterday and I bought a Star Wars Christmas tree and some girlie tree decorations so we dropped them off at Lou and Rhys’s.

They have very decorative post boxes in Herne Bay!

Sunset today is 15.48, tomorrow it starts reversing….yeah! It may only be a very small amount but the day length will be increasing from 21st! 

More wood chopping for Mal! It keeps him fit and keeps us both warm.

My day at Demelza. Jack had a day off so we had Lauren, our Manager in instead. We took more money than usual , I guess because we are so near Christmas. We all had our Christmas jumpers on which seemed to cheer up the customers.

We heard a lovely story. A lady came in and asked if she could talk to us and she told us about her 4 year old grand daughter who had neuroblastoma. She had lots of chemo, operations and was in and out of hospital all her short life. She had just heard that she was now free of it which is very unusual. The reason she came to tell us was that her grand daughters brother had suffered worrying about his sister and Demelza had supported him as they do for very sick children’s siblings and she was grateful. What a lovely Christmas present for them all. 

We heard from Tariq. He is now back into full training with the Marines and passed his tests and was awarded his green belt! He is so happy and we are very proud of him. He comes home for Christmas on Thursday. It will be lovely to see him again. 

Mal spent time chopping more wood for the fire.
