Well, we may not have got to bed until after 1am but we were still in for breakfast at 8am! Kippers and haddock for breakfast. Even Mal had enough of the fry ups and had fish! Plenty of fruit as well. We paid for the “Premium” eating and are really impressed with it. In fact impressed with everything. I know it is a holiday camp but the staff are so lovely too.

We went for a long walk along the beach and so were many others too.

Lunchtime we went to listen to Gilmore and Roberts

In the afternoon we watched St Agnes Fountain, they had a complete Christmas set.

We then had dinner, We went into the carvery.

The next performance we went to was Tradarrr .

Our final concert for the weekend was Bella Hardy, a beautiful voice,

What a lot of great music in one weekend. We both really enjoyed it and would think of coming again.

We went in for our breakfast quite early. What a choice! I ended up having poached haddock and a kipper! I do love my fish. Of course Mal had to have the fry up!! He did choose some fresh fruit as well.

I sent Ollie some pictures and told him Grandad had shrunk because he hadn’t eaten enough! Of course we had to throw coins in and make a wish at the tap.

An afternoons entertainment with the Ric Sanders Trio. Always brilliant.

We had dinner later and then were amazed that people started queuing for Centre Stage at 5.30 and the doors didn’t open until 7! Instead we went to watch a couple of the new bands.

We joined the queue at ten to 7! There must have been at least 2,000 people in there but most people wanted a table and near the bar. We were there for the music and managed to get the fourth row back almost centre stage! OK our drinks were on the floor but you just had to grab them if anyone went past!  The first act was last years newcomer winner which wasn’t our sort of music and then followed by the mighty Fairport.

I have never in all the years of watching Fairport seen Simon Nicol get so emotional when he introduced Sandy Denny’s “Where does the time go”, saying that while the people who have left us are still in our memories they have not gone. He even kissed his guitar when he finished the number. None of this did me any good at all! Good thing it was dark.

The final act of the night was Merry Hell. They are a northern band who we love but we have never seen live because they don’t seem to travel south. They were brilliant and I am sure the best band of the weekend and that says something to top Fairport and their 50 year history. That cheered me up even their rendition of ‘Bury me naked’ which I even played to Torin once saying how true, all the clutter we accumulate in our lives, for what?!

They really are great performers in every sense of the word.

Well, we even managed to stay awake for it all! Maybe because there were a lot of singalongs.

I find it difficult to believe it is December already. November seems to have past in a blur.

So,  the Great British Folk Festival. It certainly is a better way of seeing all these bands than camping out in a tent possibly in the rain. The trouble is there are so many we want to select. Merry Hell are a must so we will have to stay awake for the 11pm  start tomorrow night!
We went into breakfast at 7am as the planes started going over at 4.30am! I was already awake anyway don’t seem to get too much sleep lately. I was impressed with breakfast. There is often fresh fruit but it is never very exciting. It was here….fresh strawberries and raspberries! Of course there was everything else that you expect too.

We then drove to Skegness, stopping on the way at Springfields in Spalding. One of the reasons for stopping there was because we forgot that you take your own towels. I remembered the important things like extra wine and beer! They had an M&S Outlet there where we bought new towels and I found some very expensive Per Una velvet trousers for £9. I also bought a designer top in another shop at a fraction of the price. We had our lunch and then on to Skeggy! It was an awful journey, Friday afternoon traffic, raining and speed limits all the way.

The Great British Folk Festival was being held at Butlins. I have been here before with the boys abut 35 years ago! It has changed. We were told where our “room” was. In fact it was an apartment with 2 bedrooms and it was so warm when we opened the door. It was freezing outside. We were very impressed, much more up market than I remember. We hadn’t expected too much so were very pleasantly surprised.

We had also paid for the Premier meals package which was well worth it we discovered when we went for dinner. The secret we have found out already is to get in there early!

So many bands on and we had to be selective but our best acts this evening were Martin Healey and Eddi Reader. Eddi was excellent and I love her ‘The Patience of Angels’. For any oldies reading, she used to be in ;Fairground Attraction’!

A brilliant evening and all finished off with a couple of Remy Martin brandies!

I still have my “moments” at least a couple of times a day. A good thing Mal is so understanding but then I know how much he is suffering too.
