Saturday 9th September 2023

Ellie and I were up and out early again because of the heat, they have cut the crops in the fields at last. I was avoiding the fields in case Ellie ended up with seed in her ears or eyes but now it has been cleared. A really lovely morning.

Mal was still not well and so had to cancel his days art class. That’s a shame as he really looks forward to them, never mind the non refundable cost. This is the second one he has had to cancel. The pharmacist says you just have to wait for this virus to run it’s course, but it seems a long time to me. He has to go back to the pharmacy if it has not gone by Monday.

I popped to the shops to get some easily digestible food for Mal.

We watched the England football game, not good!

Friday 8th September 2023

I must have needed the sleep and slept right through. Ellie and I went out at 6 am to avoid the heat. We had a lovely walk to Gallow’s field and along the river. It really is the best time of day.

Because of the heat and the long walk, I think Ellie will be sleeping the rest of the day!

I met Pam in Canterbury and we went to the Marlowe theatre to watch the Rocky Horror Show, very amusing. Thankfully the air con was on in the theatre.

I tend to get the bus to the theatre as parking in Canterbury is horrendous. BUT they only run about one every two hours in the evening! So, I decided to try the new Thanet Parkway rail station. It has just opened and at the moment they are not charging for parking. Ok, so I parked the car in an almost empty car park. No staff around so I followed the signs to platform 1 and 2, walked up masses of stairs only to find the train was coming in on the other platform. No there is not a bridge to cross the track, you have to go all the way down the many steps, round the corner, under a bridge and then another load of steps to climb. So, they need to improve their sign posting. There are no WC’s , no ticket office and no staff that I saw.  There was one other person who got onto the train as well as me. Kent County council do love throwing their money away!!  I think this says it all.

Mal still has this rotten virus and I think slept some of the time I was out.

Thursday 7th September 2023

We drove to Kearsney and after a walk in the cool woods, Ellie ran straight for the stream!

Mal was still not well, so I insisted he go and see the pharmacist in Tesco Extra in Dover on the way home.  Up until now he has refused. That was helpful as she told him she was too busy “Go and see your doctor”. Of course I got a “see I told you it was a waste of time” look. However I nagged enough that he called 111, she in the end told him to go and see the pharmacist in Sandwich who she would speak to. She finally agreed it was sapovirus.

Sadly we heard that Mal’s nephew has passed away. We don’t know any details but it brought back all the heartbreak of losing Torin.

I rarely have migraine nowadays but it started in the afternoon, made me sick and so I went to bed in the dark at 4.

Tuesday 5th September 2023

Laura Tobin from GMB is in Broadstairs this morning! But we went to Minnis Bay early. An awful stink of seaweed as there always is this time of year.  Ellie loved being in the sea. Then a coffee after the walk outside “Waves.” It was so quiet down there now all the kids have gone back to school. Lovely.

Rhys sent me this photo of his early morning walk along the sea front. Beautiful.

My volunteer day at Cancer Research.  I called into the butchers and bought another large turkey breast to go in the freezer. We love them and had one over the weekend. We usually buy them for Christmas but they are so good, we don’t just eat them at Christmas.

Sunday 3rd September 2023

Such a lovely morning, misty but warm so we went to Kearsney.

It always amuses me that there are always men sailing their tiny boats on the lake. I remember doing that in Palmer’s Green when I was about 6 in Broomfield Park!! Of course Ellie ran from the woods straight into the stream.

We stopped for a coffee and then an afternoon in the garden. Mal did go and pick a lot of vegetables.
