Today we should have been going to London to see Hamilton. Of course there is no way that Mal could even manage the train, let alone sit in the theatre. BUT we had booked Jaye and Lea to have Ellie for the day and as they are having her when we go to Madeira, it is a good practice for her to be there for short times.  So, after her walk I drove her to Herne Bay to their house. Jaye is a little like me, has had a couple of not well behaved dogs staying and so she too is being selective.

When I arrived there Barney looked so pleased to see Ellie and Daisy was there as well, she is the retriever we look after who never wants to leave! Looks as though Ellie will have a fun play day!

A bit of shopping to try and get Mal some food he may fancy instead of feeling sick…not easy!

Ollie has been busy shucking oysters at Whitstable Oyster festival. He works very hard at his part time job at Wheelers Oyster Bar,

Lea dropped Ellie off about 8pm, I think she was worn out! They took her to the beach at Tankerton.  She tried to ignore me when she got home but did come up to the bedroom eventually! A new experience for her.

Friday 15th September 2023

A very misty morning early when Ellie and I walked over the fields.

Another very disturbed night with Mal, made even worse by someone hammering at our door at 10.30pm when we had gone to bed. I have no idea why but the hairdresser who is renting a room at the Jubilee Centre was knocking for keys to the centre. Nor do I know how she got our address.

So, first thing this morning I contacted all the other trustees and told them Mal is handing his keys in until he is better.  The final straw being last night. I then went and posted the keys into the centre. He doesn’t need this stress, time someone else made an effort.

Next, he had to ring our GP surgery, 15 minutes hanging on the phone and after another load of questions “a doctor will ring you.”  True to their word, a doc phoned and told Mal to get there within the next hour, so I drove him round to the medical centre.

If this had not happened, I was going to take him to Deal hospital.

He was in with the doc for 15 minutes. He has a lot of tests booked now and also his blood pressure was sky high so has a prescription for BP tablets. He was also told to buy some Dioralyte. He came home and went to bed, exhausted but what a relief that at last a doctor has seen him. The doctor then told him NEVER to use 111 again! Great! It really gives you faith in the present day NHS.

Thursday 14th September 2023

I took Ellie very early again and then went to meet Pam at Westwood for a coffee. We had a good chat.

Mal is still not well and didn’t sleep much. He sent another message to the “Advanced Practitioner” at the surgery saying he had not improved and wants to see someone. NO REPLY!! Trying to phone is useless.

Wednesday 13th September 2023

Ellie and I went out early and it was raining a little and much cooler. It is the first time for months that I have had socks and wellies on.  I have been wearing walking sandals for our walks and hate moving to wearing shoes and boots !

I had an appointment for the dentist to take impressions for a new plate after the last tooth I had out. I found the dentist to be less than helpful. She took the impressions, told me I needed another 2 appointments but didn’t tell me what for. When I asked, “one for the fitting, the next for adjustments” So, I then asked her about the crown that maxillofacial said I needed taking out. “Oh do you wan it out?”!!! I asked her opinion and she said “I guess so”. For goodness sake maxillofacial sent her the X rays and instructions!!!! I know that was months and months ago but it is on my notes and the treatment I am having now I paid for a year ago! I am now getting the distinct impression  they no longer want NHS patients. Even maxillofacial say they only work Mondays now.

My friend’s husband had his dentist phone him to say his appointment was cancelled and when asking when he could make a new one he was told he couldn’t as they are no longer keeping their NHS patients!! So, I keep going while I can still get some treatment without going private.

Tuesday 12th September 2023

Another early morning walk with Ellie, the fields are covered in mosquitoes as well, so many of them and everyone is getting bitten.

Our order arrived of our SkinSoSoft, that will keep the mozzies at bay. Mal was still not well, being sick and hardly eating.

We watched the football in the evening. A much better performance from England. They beat Scotland 3-1. Their one goal was an own goal!

Monday 11th September 2023

I took Ellie out early again and then went to volunteer at Cancer research. Jack was back from his honeymoon, it was evidently extremely hot in Paris but they had a good time.

Mal rang  the doctor’s surgery and had an “E consultation”, how ridiculous. They have told him to go dairy free and see if that makes a difference, not much of a diagnosis! How come other surgeries actually SEE their patients?! He is hardly eating and went to bed at 8.

At the moment everyone in the area is being attacked by mosquitoes! They are everywhere. It has been 3 years since the council have sprayed. I have sent for some more Skin So Soft.

Sunday 10th September 2023

The weather forecast says it will be THE hottest day today so Ellie and I were up and out again early in spite of the thick mist.

We met quite a few more sensible dog walkers, getting the walk done early!

Mal still wasn’t well and was sick a couple of times and had very little to eat.
