Thursday 24th August 2023

I went shopping in Deal. I bought a lot of fish from the fishmongers including a crab for our lunch. I also bought a lightweight mac, the one I have at the moment is too heavy. The new one is totally waterproof. I have been looking for one for a while and found it in Mountain Warehouse.

I then went to the hairdressers to have my hair cut. It was very humid but nice having my hair washed and a head massage.

Wednesday 23rd August 2023

Mal had a meeting at the Jubilee Centre. It looks as though things are coming together and the guy we met on the field opposite at the weekend (Sven) is very into volunteering and the trustees are now thinking of volunteer caretaker but in the meantime he is clearing the garden and outside. A very positive chance meeting with him last weekend. He is full of enthusiasm, which is what they need, someone younger and eager!

I then went by bus into Canterbury and met Pam and Ali for a pre theatre lunch at the Marlowe restaurant.

The theatre trip should have been a Hatters outing but in the end we just went as friends as our new “Queen” doesn’t seem to be interested in outings and having fun! Outings I have come up with, obviously don’t appeal to her but she is coming up with little else!

After lunch we went to the theatre and met Toots and Annie to watch Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers. I have seen it before many years ago in London with Barbara Dickson in it.  This production was outstanding, far better than the London one. You could have heard a pin drop all the way through by the end most of us were crying and there was a standing ovation and four curtain calls.  What a brilliant piece of theatre.

Tuesday 22nd August 2023

I have to say I was very surprised that no one welcomed the Lionesses back home! What on earth has happened to this country?? As it was neither William or the so called KING Charles went to the final match……the Queen of Spain was there. All you hear about on the news is about that evil nurse.

Our walk took a very long time as everyone wanted to talk and make a fuss of Ellie. Five people offered her treats which I declined and thank goodness she didn’t see the man pushing his trolley around emptying the bins as they have a supply of bonios!

We have decided as we will be spending Christmas on our own we are having ours a couple of days early and going to the Lost Estate. I signed up quite a while back and then was offered “priority booking”. It started midday today, so we now have our tickets booked just before Christmas.  We just need to find the Victorian clothes and also book a hotel. Exciting. I have also messaged Lea to see if he can have Ellie for the night.

Mal went off to his art class and I spent the rest of the morning freezing french beans, runner beans and picking tomatoes. I even took some runner beans to work for Jack and we still have so many keep coming. I love them.

Monday 21st August 2023

My volunteer day at Cancer Research, a lot of football to talk about!

In the evening we went to The Bell in Minster for dinner in their garden. There really is so much food that even Mal had to leave some!

Sunday 20th August 2023

So, the dogs slept one each side of the bed, not on the bed I hasten to mention!! But Daisy is very good and just settled down. Breakfast and after that, both waiting for some apple.

Then the walk so we can all concentrate on the football!

We made a jug of Pimms and settled down for the football.

I have to say  I was so disappointed that the Lionesses lost.

In the afternoon I waited and waited and was rewarded, when the Red Arrows flew over!

They had just finished their air display in Folkestone.

We watched the Hammers, another win! So at least Spurs and Hammers this weekend.

After dinner Trudi came to collect Daisy who promptly went and got into Ellie’s bed! I don’t think she wanted to go home.

Saturday 19th August 2023

Daisy came to stay again, she is another lovely goldie who has stayed with us before, so we took the two girls down by the river.

Spurs beat Man U! I would normally message Rhys but I don’t want to spoil his holiday! The Luton game was postponed, Kenilworth Road pitch not up to standard….it never was!

Daisy is another one who likes to lay in front of the fan!  She is very relaxed.

Friday 18th August 2023

We took Ellie over the fields.

We had a holiday booked with the Hatters, for September but it ended up failing because of one person being awkward. I’ll say no more but I brought it up at the Hatter meeting that we go away for a weekend in the Isle of Wight. It started off 6 wanting to go, including our new Queen . Still not a very good response I felt but OK.  By the following day the Queen said she couldn’t go.  Pam and I are still going, so I booked for the two of us, no one else seems to make their minds up. I think a lot of the group still don’t understand what being a Red Hatter is all about!

In the afternoon we took Ellie to the vets for her weight clinic. Megan was so thrilled because she is now at ideal weight and maintaining it. She lost 100 gram and a centimetre around her waist. So, now we just keep her at that weight. She doesn’t need to lose any more. Then Megan put her success on Facebook, with before and after pictures. You can’t actually see her before pictures here but she looks so different.

Well done Ellie! Hopefully we have added another 2 years to her life.
