I went shopping in Deal. Instead of a Sunday roast the gang are coming tomorrow as Oscar has football on Sunday.  Mal was at the allotment picking all the vegetables and fruit for tomorrow. We have raspberries, cultivated blackberries and tons of apples! It’ll have to be a crumble. A shame we can’t grow the lemons for the lemon cheesecake! Everyone loves my version of that.

We had the gas fitter back who did the service on the boiler and asked for an estimate for a new boiler as the insurance company sent someone out who we didn’t really like and was telling us some untruths. He said it would probably come down to a new boiler.

We’ve called the insurance company twice…..”they will let us know”. We know we get money towards a new boiler if needed, so we have asked the other local fitter to give us a written quote and go ahead. We have already had a favourable verbal quote from him. Only thing is he can’t do it until the end of the month. We are quite happy with that. Better to sort it now than in the winter.

Meanwhile we have an electric shower and a dishwasher, hopefully it will stay warm!

I spent the afternoon in the garden.

Very dull again but we took Ellie to Westgate Bay for a swim.

I met up with Jackie at lunchtime, we went to the Dog and Duck at Plucks Gutter. A nice lunch and a lot of sorting out for Hatters.

Poor Jackie is really suffering with her ankle, she needs a new one but the NHS moves very slowly nowadays and she has been waiting years and in a lot of pain but somehow she always has a smile. Brave lady.

In the evening we watched the football, an England win 4-0.

We went to the park in Ramsgate. It was raining when we left home but no rain in Ramsgate.

Later we went to the allotment. Each year I tell Mal he doesn’t grow enough runner beans as I love them and we often eat them for lunch with a poached egg on top. I think this year, he has excelled, we have so many wigwams of them this year! Delicious.

I picked some of the sunflowers and took them round to Torin’s grave, they look lovely. There are still plenty left for the bees.

Mal walked Ellie while I went to Westwood Cross. I wasn’t there long as I think a lot of kids were getting kitted out for their school uniforms so it was too busy. I managed to buy quite a lot of bulbs for the garden and allotment.

In the afternoon I sorted a couple of my pots out in the garden.

Ellie does love her teddies!

In the evening we started watching Vigil. It seems good so far!

We walked Ellie in the drizzle, well it is Bank Holiday!

I forgot to mention that our boiler has packed up. A good thing we have insurance but it was only serviced three weeks ago! BUT the company sent an engineer out on Bank Holiday! He is reporting back to the insurance company, may be a new boiler.

Lou and the kids came round in the afternoon and we walked to the quay, ready for the Duck Race. We all had a duck but none of ours won. Never mind, the money goes to charity and it’s fun watching the ducks.

After all the excitement we went to Ossies for fish and chips!

Rhys was working over the weekend but said Whitstable Oyster Festival was quite pathetic to what it usually is. Let’s hope all these festivals improve for next year.

An early morning walk with Ellie as it was quite warm. We walked along the sea front in Deal.

Early evening it was just as it used to be in Sandwich, Lou and the three kids and we also met up with Tris and Violet. So lovely to be back together again and hugging each other. We went to the concert on the Quay and it was such a  lovely atmosphere. We took a picnic and some prosecco. That soon ran out and so we bought more at the bar. In fact it seems we drank the bar dry and the last bottle was some sort of nettle wine but we still drank it!

It was the best time we have had in a long while.

We all enjoyed it, it’s been so long with no events on in Sandwich.

We walked Ellie around Sandwich and they were just setting up the stalls and stages for the weekends Sandwich Festival. As we walked past, even some of the stall holders had dog treats they were offering Ellie! We can’t get away from it.

It’s so lovely to have something back on the streets of Sandwich, it has been so long.

We went back in the afternoon without Ellie as we knew it would be busy.

Of course we watched the Hammers game!
