Monday 17th August 2020

We decided to have our breakfast in the holiday park restaurant and we were in there first before it became crowded. Our breakfasts all arrived cold and the restaurant wasn’t clean, so much for COVID cleanliness….not! Mal ran his finger just beside him and it was filthy. He then had to go and clean his hands. That was the last time we ate there!

We walked the dogs and then drove into Looe where we had booked lunch at Hannafore Point Hotel. It started raining as soon as we got out of the car!

I have to say after all the heat it was quite refreshing to be walking in the rain. Sadly our lunch wasn’t good either. I was looking forward to a crab salad and it was a very poor offering that I was served. The roll that came with it was rock hard, I knocked on the table with it! The mussel starters weren’t good either, to say this is a restaurant right next to the harbour, not good. We did tell the waitress but she wasn’t interested.

In the evening we went into the club house. We had to queue and wait to be seated. We WON the quiz!! We were so proud and our prize…..a shopping bag with a frisbee, a pen, a fridge magnet and a couple of other bits in it. At least we had a good laugh about it. We didn’t win the bingo!

Sunday 16th August 2020

Mal had planned us a circular walk to Millendreath beach. We took the dogs with us. Ellie enjoyed a paddle.

We had a nice brisk walk to the beach but as we left the weather became hotter and it was then we realised that there was a lot of very steep steps and hills to climb to get back to Looe. It was a killer and even going down one very steep hill, Ellie just stopped and couldn’t go any further. She had enough bless her. Yes, we had her travel bowl and water and she had drinks but I think physically she had enough. We told the others to go on and we would catch up when she had a rest (and us!!) When they arrived in Looe, they phoned and asked if we would like Cornish pasties (highly recommended) and also told us that Looe was manic, I quote “far worse than Whitstable on a weekend”!!

We met up with them when we had rested and said to go ahead looking around and we would go for a coffee. The next phone call we had was Rhys saying they had taken a taxi back to the caravan park as it was too far and too hilly to walk (and they are all fit!) The idea was Lou to get her car and pick us up but having returned realised that I had the caravan key. BUT the lady who drove their taxi allowed dogs and they gave us her phone number. Luckily she was back on the rank, so we too had a taxi back with her. What a walk. I think it was then we realised as much as we liked walking nowhere around where we were staying was flat!!

We had dinner in the caravan and then went into the entertainment and of course the bingo!

Saturday 15th August 2020

We left about 7am. Lou, Josie, Oscar and me in one car and Rhys, Mal and Ollie in the other. Thank goodness they were taking their two cars as I didn’t fancy driving that far. Ellie was in the back of our car and Roddie in with Rhys. Ellie didn’t like it in the back of the car and panted most of the way! She is used to having the whole back seat to herself in our car. Not possible on this journey with all our luggage too! We made it to Looe in just under 6 hours which was pretty good going. We had paid extra to get into our caravan early, but still had to wait for a while.

They hadn’t left any bedding for the put u up in the living room so we had to ask for that. I was disappointed not having a larger veranda and no gate on the little we had, which meant we had to barricade the dogs in. We paid an extra £80 for taking a dog and yet there were really no facilities for them. Other parks we have been to have an exercise area at least.

We had a wander around the site, then dinner in the caravan and then into the clubhouse as we had decided we would go and play bingo!  A screen at the bar, no one wearing masks but half capacity. We played bingo and I had one number to go to a full house and that would have been £5K!!

Friday 14th August 2020

We took Ellie to Stone Bay. We were on the beach by 6.30 and it was lovely, so cool. The weather is changing now looking to become cooler. Ellie does love her beach walks and a dig in the sand.

Back home and we packed for a holiday in Looe, Cornwall with Rhys, Lou and the kids. We spent the night at their house so that we could have an early start the following day.

Thursday 13th August 2020

Another early walk. We had a couple of spots of rain in the night but very humid again. Ellie played with Laurie’s greyhound but didn’t try to keep up with him!

I had to go shopping for some things for our holiday. It was too hot to shop. Priority I had to get Ellie a new chew bone! By the time I got home the ice cream I bought was very runny, mainly because I got stuck in a traffic jam. I should have taken the cool bag!

Mal (at last) went to have his hair cut. His barber was called away to an emergency and so he went to a new one. The ageing hippie looks normal now.

Another hot night.

Wednesday 12th August 2020

Another early morning walk with Ellie but it was very humid. We had a shady walk around St Clements.

Lou, Oscar and Josie came round to do some work at the allotment. Rhys and Ollie were at home painting. It was so hot at the allotment. We came back to our house for some lunch.

Tuesday 11th August 2020

Another early morning walk with Ellie. So many people dog walking earlier now. It looks as though the sun is going to be strong again today.

I previously told Rhys that I would like to go to a nice restaurant with fresh fish for this “Eat Out….” incentive. He recommended Birdies in Whitstable and I am so glad he did. Of course we had to book and the only table was outside and we told them that would be fine, in fact better for us then we would be self isolating!

It was very hot at lunchtime and we were so glad we were eating outside. The food and the service were so good and of course half price…well up to £20 off but what a difference that made. I had my favourite, lobster and of course it came along with the seafood pick and nut crackers. I had also ordered mussels to start and Mal said I must have had the messiest meal possible. Yes, I did but didn’t care even when bits of lobster shot across the table! It was so good. I am so glad Rhys suggested this place.

I brush Ellie every night and noticed her dew claw was all bent out of shape as if she had damaged it. I remember another of my dogs catching his and it wouldn’t stop bleeding. So, I phoned the vet and they told me they were just about to shut but “drive straight down”. What service!  We saw Kerry and she took Ellie in (we have to wait in the car park) and she clipped the claw right down and told us to watch it. The cost? £7.50 I didn’t know any vet charged that little nowadays!
