Monday 24th August 2020

We took Ellie for her walk and she had plenty of dogs to play with. I think she had missed that.

Mal and I then went into Deal and called into Spoons for a coffee and lunch. We sat in the garden and ate it. Crazy money as it was all half price (£6.30).

Mal went to the allotment in the afternoon while I started sorting the garden out. I don’t know what happened to the rain that had been forecast!

Sunday 23rd August 2020

Ellie out for a walk and then I did washing etc and went to buy some food.

Mal caught up with some of his students (he teaches teachers).

In the afternoon we went to the allotment to give it a much needed watering and there was masses of vegetables. They have also fitted a new gate and we will all have a special high security key.

Plenty of vegetables for a curry in the evening!

Saturday 22nd August 2020

Again we decided to leave early to try and avoid the masses of traffic. So many people having staycations means the roads are a nightmare. Rhys was taking a diversion on the way home to have the screen fitted in his taxi. Of course it was longer and they hit a lot of traffic. We were very lucky and had a good journey watching queue after queue on the opposite side of the road heading to the west country. The last chance for many people to have a break before the kids return to school.

Ellie still didn’t like it in the back of the car and at one point tried to climb over on to the seat!

Eventually Rhys, Mal and Ollie arrived, we sorted out the cars and then drove home. The main thing was Ollie, Oscar and Josie enjoyed the holiday, I was not so pleased with parts of it, mainly the lack of cleanliness and care (Covid) but then no one seems to know what they are doing anyway!

Sandwich did not have the amount of rain we had, consequently my hanging baskets and much of my garden looked quite sad, but we do have a lot of tomatoes in my pots.

It was a long day, even longer for Lou and Rhys who both had to drive. We just unpacked our case, sorted some things and had a very easy dinner!

Friday 21st August 2020

Lou, Rhys and the kids were up early and went to Looe harbour to go crabbing. They discovered if they went early then there were very few tourists around. They caught some big crabs!

Meanwhile Mal and I were still trying to find a decent dog walk. We spoke to a farmer who said we could walk in her fields as long as we didn’t mind the three donkeys there. We thought that was very kind of her and Ellie had a run off the lead, she rather likes horses/donkeys. Then we discovered that originally a public footpath went right across the fields and we even found the stile and the post where the sign had been pulled down! Of course it had all been left overgrown. At least the dogs had a run.

Friday, so we had to have fish and chips from Coddy Shack! We had local haddock. Josie said it was the best battered sausage she had ever had!

Later we went to the entertainment hoping it was our turn to win the bingo…we didn’t!!
Back to the caravan and we packed up ready to leave the following morning.

Thursday 20th August 2020

Lou and Rhys took the kids crabbing. I went into reception and complained about Lou queuing in the rain the night before. I totally understand that they are down to 50% capacity for the entertainment but was it necessary to leave everyone queuing in the rain. The Manager apologised and said we could have free drinks in the evening. That wasn’t what I wanted and told him that but he seemed to listen as he was checking on everything from then, we saw him around all the time.

Mal and I took the dogs for a long walk but quite honestly too near the road for most of it. We did have a wander around a churchyard.

We queued early for the entertainment and only had two free drinks. It hadn’t been my intention to get anything free.

Wednesday 19th August 2020

We had torrential rain overnight. Lou and Rhys took the dogs out in the rain. They were taking the kids crabbing but it was too wet.

We went out for lunch to the Copley Arms in Hessenford.  It was very Covid aware and our table was very spaced out away from others. But we still heard someone from another table being very rude to the staff saying they had been waiting too long. For goodness sake, all these places are trying their best under difficult circumstances. Patience is called for. We enjoyed our lunch, especially Ollie who said he had the best Nachos ever!!

It was still raining in the evening, so Lou and Ollie went to queue for seats for the entertainment. They queued in the rain for half an hour only to be told there wasn’t room. They could have been told that at the beginning!

Tuesday 18th August 2020

We all drove into Looe after walking the dogs. We had a wander around the shops but none of us really felt like going in the shops with masks on, takes all the pleasure out of it!

We had a very good lunch in Portside Brasserie in the Portbyhan Hotel. They checked our temperatures as we went in and then seated us on the outside terrace overlooking the harbour. We all had very good meals. I had the most delicious sea bass with caper mash. What a lovely view we had.

Later in the afternoon we had to have some Cornish Ice Cream and a wander along the beach!

In the evening back in for the entertainment and BINGO!!
