Year: 2019

Wow, what awful weather. Tesco at Westwood, an enormous store has lost its roof! Needless to say they are unable to trade, or even keep anything dry!

I met Rhys up at Westwood and we had lunch and decided after lunch that we would have a coffee as it was so windy outside. The coffee machine in the pub had broken down! We ended up in Sainsburys drinking our coffee and it was quite nice in there, sitting comfortably on the sofas.

Rhys pointed out the Bee Hotel to me, I hadn’t noticed it before. Good for them.

We have decided to take Ellie to a different vets to get a second opinion, we have been thinking about it all weekend, a vet we have never seen before at Eagle vets and she didn’t even look at the lump, just felt underneath her, asked if we had insurance and said she needed an op. It’s possible the next vet will say the same thing but at least we will ensure they take a look.

The day at Demelza. We did really well and beat our target. Yes, a charity shop and we are set targets!

Mal had dinner ready when I arrived home.

Wow, it was really windy. Ellie loves the wind and chases around. We took her home and then went to Howletts to meet Lou, Ollie, Oscar and Josie. One of the walkways was closed off where a tree had fallen down.

The lovely Arina (Siberian tiger) was out and being very friendly. We had our lunch at the zoo, managed to find somewhere out of the wind.

We also saw Victoria Aspinall playing with Saba the cheetah.

Back home and we watched the Man U game, a surprising loss!

The really high winds continued, a tree just along our road was completely uprooted. I am very pleased we moved. This is the house we moved from, what happened today!

We took Ellie to Minnis Bay. It was extremely windy and so there were a lot of wind surfers out, less dog walkers as the sand was blowing into your eyes!

We then had a bit of a cleaning day. Mal cleaned the shed out, a lot was “stored” in there when we moved in, which means we can never find anything.  That’s all sorted now. He also tried to sort out painted over vents around the house. Bit by bit. One thing I have noticed is that I can’t do as much work in a day as I used to! I guess they call it ageing.

I met Rhys at Westwood early morning, when he dropped his student off and we went and had breakfast together. It was nice to see him a bit brighter than he has been, he just has to carry on with the antibios and make sure he eats properly, not so easy with the hours he works. We did a bit of a shop around Sainsburys then he went home for a sleep.

Later Mal and I went over to the carpet shop for our final decision on flooring and he gave us a final price for the lot. They go on holiday now and will return mid April. That suits us as we have some decorating to do before the stair carpet is laid.

Early evening we took Ellie to Eagle Vets for her annual injections . I have been going to this vets from the time it opened in Minster. I was George’s first customer with another Goldie I had at the time and a scatty English Setter! Ellie also has a small lump by one of her nipples. As it is by her mammary gland, the vet wants to operate to see what it is and send it away to see if it is malignant. I know that Golden Retrievers have a predisposition for mammary cancer, so fingers crossed she is OK. She has her op on 19th. The vet did ask if she had been spayed and yes we had her spayed as soon as we took over her care. A good thing we have insurance, their estimate for this procedure is £600.

Totally unconcerned she plays with her teddy when she is home!

A dry morning and so we took Ellie for a lovely long walk.

No rain forecast for today and what happened at midday? It rained but we were back home by then. At least I managed to get all my washing dry as it was windy. I do have a tumble dryer but rarely use it as I love the smell of outdoors.

We have decided we need a new bird table as ours has blown over twice in the high winds.

In the afternoon we went to The Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury to see the National Theatre’s production of War Horse. It was so good and very clever and also emotional. I am so glad we went to see it, one of the best.

We were lucky to have seen it as I booked the tickets many months before and thought we had tickets for the evening. A good thing I checked the previous day as to the start time, only to discover it was the afternoon!

I went to Westwood to collect some things I ordered from Marks and a couple more presents for Mal’s birthday!

Poor Rhys has been back to the doctors as he has not been well at all and this time she has given him antibiotics. I hope he feels better soon, not good when he has to keep working.
