Happy Birthday to Lou!! It was her birthday so after walking Ellie at Reculver (Ellie now has a nose for moles!), we called in with her presents before they set off for a day in Brighton.

Tris and Violet were in Margate and so we met up with them for late afternoon tea. We went to the Curious Cupcake but they were closing at 4 and so we left and looked for another place. The Mad Hatter was open which surprised us as it has been closed for months. It now has a new owner and there were really nice staff in there. We went upstairs to Queen Victoria’s Parlour. We were all surprised when Violet chose the Mini Mad Hatter Tea which was served on a 3 tier cake stand and she ate the lot!! Her blackcurrant juice was served in a tea pot, the same as our tea. It’s a really quaint place and we will be going back there.

We also went into Cuttings , our favourite jewellers to see how much they will charge for making my wedding ring and engagement ring smaller. I had them enlarged when I lived in Cyprus and my fingers used to swell. As usual with them, a reasonable price so we will take them in next week. Mal bought my antique engagement ring there and they made my wedding ring to match and they are possibly the only jewellers I totally trust. They have been there for so many years and are so nice.

We took Ellie out and she managed to ignore the swans and the green ditch water! 

After taking her home we went to Westwood. I managed to spend over £60 in Tesco and so received a voucher for 10p a litre off petrol. We went into Marks & Spencer as I had ordered two dresses, which they didn’t have in store. They should have been there awaiting collection. They weren’t. There had been “some delivery problem”. Of course we complained and ended up with a £5 voucher for our trouble! The lady promised she would phone me when they arrived, supposedly tomorrow. We put the £5 voucher towards their £10 meal deal. We arrived home and they phoned to say they had now arrived….hopeless! Another day. 

It was really foggy all day long but Ellie likes being in the garden. I heard her barking and barking and so went out to see what it was all about. I thought she had one of the moorhens that wander from the lake across the road. No, she had dug up a mole. He was a little wet where he had been in her mouth but was OK, just a bit shocked and obviously didn’t like the light. Mal took him into the field where he could dig down again.

We watched Kyle Edmund’s tennis match, sadly he lost.

The weather was much better but as you can see from the photo, the footpaths are flooding and the fields are mud but the snowdrops across the road are a promise that Spring is just around the corner.

Half way round the walk, the sun shining, my eyes started leaking! Grief comes over me in waves at the most unexpected times.  A hug always helps and I just wanted to get home. Thankfully we didn’t see any neighbours on the rest of the way home. I am so lucky to have Mal who understands.

Not a brilliant day.

Wow, what a wind when we walked Ellie. It almost felt as if it was going to knock us off our feet across the fields. Ellie loves the wind in her ears and runs all over the place. 

Our fire wood is running low and so we went to the skip hire place to load the car up again. I can’t believe people throw away such good wood.  We took a fraction of what was there.

That was Mal sorted for the afternoon!

We were still walking at 9am , almost home when the rain did start! 

January becomes a bit much because of the weather. I received an email from Toby Carvery – 2 meals for £10. That seemed a good idea to brighten the day up BUT Mal loaded his plate a little too high and then told the waitress the server gave him too much food (it’s help yourself!!) Always the joker.

I did chuckle at the weekend at reading this in the paper as Mal was voted the most sarcastic teacher in his school!

My day at Demelza. A good day and I managed to sell a wedding dress which boosted the sales.  One of the customers told us, in passing, she was a medium and her guide had told her he had seen a man with a dog. Mmmmm! She said she would bring her cards in next Monday! I wonder who her guide saw??! She was talking to Heather and I. Not quite sure how I feel about that. 

I have been looking for a children’s cookery book for little Oscar but we haven’t had any but Fran saw one in the Cancer charity shop and asked them to put it by for me, which they had. Jack told me to go and get it in the middle of the afternoon as we had a lull in customers. I’m sure the budding chef will love it.

Way back last year I bought Mal, for Father’s Day, a voucher for a 3 course meal at Ambrette We do like the restaurant, a fusion of French and Indian. You can taste all the individual spices that they use. It really is high end food with amuse bouche in between the 3 courses. So, we decided to go for their “Exotic Sunday lunch” and very good it was too. What made it even better was they had a pianist who was playing and singing very gentle music. Very romantic.

Mal had the saddle of British lamb  roast and it came with spicy vegetables and very different tasting yorkshire puddings. As usual I had the roasted sea bass for main (I love fish) and my starter grilled Tilapia.

It started snowing while we were in there and was getting a lot colder. Straight home afterwards and the log burner alight! Just a shame Spurs didn’t get their three points when we watched the game.
