Another busy day. We took Ellie for a walk in more snow! We then went over to Sandwich and Tris helped a little with some painting in the morning. He then went back to London. Mal and I carried on working. The “once” one coat paint doesn’t go very far so I had to go and buy more!

We are both so tired. It might also be something to do with a very late night last night.

Mal’s 70th!! I am now married to an old man! He opened all his presents and cards, I cooked him breakfast and then we went over to Sandwich as he said he wanted to do some work on the house! A lot of our ‘Celebrations’ seem to be moved from one date to another. I guess as far as his birthday is concerned it just means it is longer!

Midday Lou and Rhys arrived to bring a birthday cake for Mal. That was so considerate as we have had little time. So Mal really appreciated that.

They stayed for tea and cake and then we carried on a bit more cleaning and also fitted a new post box by the front door. The old one is rusted and quite honestly anyone could have put their hand in and take out all the post!  Rhys also went into the loft to see exactly how much was boarded. Well, that was a bit of surprise, a whole bank of plugs up there and other “stuff”. We had wondered why there were stains on the ceiling and had just thought the water tank must have leaked at some stage!! 

We stopped at Wickes and Range on the way home, more paint and “things”.

We drove back into Sandwich in the evening where we were going to meet two of Mal’s sons. They did arrive eventually (not the best at organising themselves!) So Mal and I had  a Caribbean meal in The Crispin, then the boys and Jemma arrived. We then went on the the  Admiral Owen, and ended the night in the Mermaids Locker. 

I think the Mermaids Locker  (in spite of the fact I saw a mouse run across the floor!) was our favourite although we still have another EIGHT pubs to try in Sandwich, all within walking distance.

Tris stayed with us the night.

Happy 21st Birthday to our grandson River…that time has flown by!

RIP Stephen Hawking

I dropped Mal and Ellie off at the house in Sandwich and I went back up to Westwood. More paint, small roller, a blind for the kitchen, shower curtain etc. It’s exhausting finding exactly what I want and also because I am trying to organise all the rooms at once! Meanwhile Mal was doing the second coat on the ceilings. In Cyprus we used a paint brush with a hole in the end, that you can put on the end of the pole for the high difficult to reach places. That was today’s mission. I asked all the assistants in all the shops. They don’t seem to do them here. The stairs go round a corner so there are some very difficult areas  to reach where you can’t balance a ladder! 

An early finish as it was River’s 21st so back to Preston a quick change and over to Herne Bay. We ate in the Oyster and Chop House.  I had the lobster. They even bring them out alive so you can choose which one you want! At least you know they are fresh. Maddie came with River. Sol was working. We had a lovely evening and nice to see River.

I don’t sleep particularly well and if I wake up, it is better for me to get up or thoughts get the better of me. So, 4 am this morning, what am I doing? Looking at paint colours and finding the best paint to buy!!  At least I have a distraction.

I dropped Mal off at Sandwich with Ellie and then I went to Wickes and again they honoured the price match they do. I now have a lot of the wood paint. It seems everything I planned to buy I couldn’t find. I gave up and went to the house and spent all afternoon scrubbing out all the kitchen cupboards. Mal painted ceilings all day!

We were both very tired when we arrived back in Preston.

Our day for completion on the house! We took Ellie out and then waited for the phone call. The solicitor called to say the money had all gone through. Eventually the estate agent called to say we could now collect keys. I told Mal he could go in on his own as I didn’t want to see them or I may tell them what I think of their “service”! At last we are free of them and now I can write a review for them!

We then drove to the house with a total of 25 keys! That was fun trying to sort out what keys were for what and even then there were no keys for the small windows in the conservatory. We have a LOT of work to do. Yeah we have a house at last!

I have to clean everywhere and the whole house needs decorating. It will give us something to think about!! Mal started by putting all the dust sheets down to start painting the ceilings tomorrow. 

We started the massive lists of all we need to get.
