I went into work at Demelza. It was nice to see the Monday gang and they were pleased to see me as I brought them back some chocolate brownies and Turkish Delight! 

It’s not every day you see two huge oxen parading through the streets of Canterbury. There may be a lot of other pilgrimages but this was a first for me and walking right past the shop to go and see the Dean. The Hare Krishnas were in town.

 

 
After seeing the Dean, one of the girls came in the shop looking for blankets but she had little money, so we gave her one that had a stain on it. This was their story for today ……

“*HISTORIC EVENT taking place at Canterbury Cathedral on Monday 17th July – please come and take part!*

At 11am a ‘Pilgrimage For Peace’ will be gathering at the cathedral gates to be blessed by the Lord Mayor and Dean of Canterbury cathedral.

However this will be no ordinary pilgrimage!

For the very first time in history, the pilgrims will be a colourful group of young Hare Krishna monks leading a lively and uplifting procession of music, food, philosophy and dance – and a temple on wheels pulled by TWO fully grown, working OXEN – through the Kent countryside, arriving at our ‘Atma Lounge’ meditation centre in Folkestone on the afternoon of the 21st as part of a 5-day, walking ‘Padayatra’ festival.

Coupling Canterbury’s progressive, forward-thinking reputation with it’s well-known history as a world famous pilgrimage site, the festival will be a living example of how simple, traditional lifestyle choices based on genuine spiritual values can provide much-needed answers to 21st Century problems.

As well as Cathedral officials & local dignitaries, the opening ceremony on the 17th July will be attended by members of the Canterbury interfaith group, each representing different facets of Canterbury’s diverse spiritual landscape.

We sincerely hope that you all will be able to attend!!!”

Well that was something to keep us amused when the shop wasn’t very busy!

Mal had dinner ready when I arrived home.

The one day I fail to take my camera on our walk (lack of pockets), Mal and I are totally mesmerised by a marsh harrier. It was amazing, We stood for ages watching it swoop over the fields looking for prey. Ellie was busy sniffing out other scents, so didn’t notice it.

We had a BBQ at lunchtime for Oscar really. It was his birthday on Monday (we weren’t back) and he wanted a BBQ but it was raining, so Mal and I did one for him today!  It was a lovely afternoon. So much food left over. I really will have to do less in future.

Even William (the dog)  from next door came to join us!

We decided to watch a film in the evening which was possibly one of the craziest films and it was based on a true story……Florence Foster Jenkins.

We were planning having a BBQ the following day, so Mal took Ellie and I went shopping early. I hate shopping on Saturdays which is why I go early before the masses. My car was also in desperate need of a clean inside and out and hasn’t been done properly since the move when I was carrying all sorts of rubbish and even things from the allotment. I went into Tesco and left the car with the men outside. You evidently even get Tesco points on your car wash now.  I don’t know why it is always me who has to do all the fetching/carrying of masses of beer!

All the flowers have survived at the front of the house, as well as India watering all my pots in the back garden.

What a shame, there was a wedding across the road and it just started raining as the bride arrived. Obviously umbrellas provided!!
I watched a good game of tennis with Garbine Muguruza beating Venus and winning the ladies final.

I felt much better and so did a shorter walk with Ellie which really did me good.

So much of the fruit is now on the trees, so many plums along our road. We are considering making wine as we are surrounded by so much free fruit. It all seems early this year.

The giant rhubarb has become even bigger. On the fields I even saw some Hogweed Bonking Beetles! I don’t think I ever realised what they were before!!

Mal went to the allotment and I tidied some of the garden, a lot has overgrown but all my flowers are doing well, thanks to India next door who watered them for me while we were away.

I was up all the previous night with sickness and diarrhea  and so slept away this day!

It rained a lot during the night and was still raining in the morning. We took Ellie out in the rain! I can’t believe how advanced all the fruit trees are. The wild plums up this road are ready to eat and so sweet.  I guess it is the unexpected summer here in our absence.

Later I went shopping. There seem to be a lot of sales on and I bought a couple of things in Marks & Spencer, of course in their sale. The rest was all the food but I’m not sure what Mal has at the allotment. Nor has he, not yet knowing whether the rabbits have eaten it all! So he went over there in the afternoon. Of course I watched the tennis! Murray is out!! Ellie was quite content, happy to be home with her ‘dog’.

 

Mal came back with salad, vegetables and gooseberries.

Torin goes off to work early and always walks his dogs first, so we offered to walk them for him which meant he could lie in until 6am!! Of course Millie had to go in for a swim.

We then packed up and headed for Rhys’s to collect Ellie. Two accidents on the M25 on the way back. One when we were stuck on Dartford Bridge with the traffic at a standstill. 4 lanes and three fire engines trying to get through. Some people are just so stupid. Of course we all had to try and budge out of the way. I was just thankful I wasn’t in the outside lane pushing up to the edge!

Needless to say Ellie was very happy to see us. We drove home and she emptied all the soft toys out of her toy box! She was pleased to be home.

We unpacked and then watched the Konta game, didn’t she do well?!
