Saturday 24th December 2011 – Christmas Eve

The day started off well and we took Rosie to the beach but the rain came down after that. There were even anemones on the grassland by the beach.

On the way back we bought Cyprus Today see link.

Later in the morning the grandchildren from Cardiff all came on the webcam for two hours. That was really nice on Christmas Eve.  The little ones were getting so excited.

For all you keen bargain hunters, the bargains are coming thick and fast now. Two big sales have started this one see link and this one see link. Happy Shopping! I have to admit to having snapped up one or two bargains.

TO ALL OUR READERS MAL AND I WISH EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Thought for the Day

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there. ~ Clement C Moore

I am sure you all know the rest of it. I read it to my kids every Christmas Eve and they now have the book to read to their children.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Friday 23rd December 2011

Compared to yesterday, what a miserable day. I took Rosie for a very wet walk and then she decided she would much rather lie in front of the log burner. It’s a dog’s life.

I went to buy Cyprus Star, which as often happens this time of year had no new news in it but a lot of pictures of pre Christmas celebrations.  I have to say reports of SOS Secret Santa, make little (or rather NO) mention of the 3 years work that our committee had to do with it. I must have dreamt it!

Then  I read the pets section in the Star, entitled “10 Safety Tips for the Holidays.” The tenth one I found very interesting.

Keep a list of Emergency phone numbers for your pet. You should always have the contact information for your vet, a 24 hour pet hospital and the Animal Poison Control Centre easily accessible.”

I agree wholeheartedly. Yes, I have my vets number but perhaps someone could tell me where the “24 hour pet HOSPITAL” is and I would also be very interested to hear where the “Animal Poison Control Centre” is.  That would be extremely useful. Answers on a postcard please! OR surely any newspaper worth its salt would inform you of the phone numbers in the article??!!

I am still sifting through bargains and of course a lot of the sales are starting now. One that may be of interest to travellers see link. OR this one for the kitchen. I don’t know what I would do without mine see link and that really is an excellent price.

Do you need a cheap room in the UK between 1st Jan and 10th Feb? If so, see link

In the evening we went to Al Shaheens for a meal with Robin and Christa. It was a really good meal but a bit chilly in the restaurant with one calor gas fire between the 10 of us who were dining there. It didn’t spoil the evening though.

Thursday 22nd December 2011

Another lovely sunny day.

Mal and I went out delivering Christmas presents and cards. Several people weren’t in and the last one we tried to deliver a dolmus had crashed with a car and the road was totally blocked. We then went on to pay our house insurance and the office was shut!

You must watch this youtube, it is so funny! I guess she was told to sing up!

Wednesday 21st December 2011

I went to buy Cyprus Today see link. As newsworthy as ever!

It was a really warm day but thought we had better order more logs ready for the cold weather. Of course he came in the afternoon, always seems to be the same day delivery. 3 tons for 350tl. Please don’t ask me how they measure their tons because I have no idea but Mal has quite a scientific method working on the volume (he would!)

The lira is doing well, it actually hit 2.97 to the £ today….yeah!

Thought for the Day –“And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.” ~ Dr Seuss

Tuesday 20th December 2011

We had booked the car in for a service with Ziggy and so drove down to his garage. I gave him a list of things needing doing. I did mean to mention the windscreen wipers as they have been the same ones since we have had the car (nearly 7 years) and we all know how rubber rots here but I didn’t have to, Ziggy took one look and peeled the rubber away! We were going to walk back home but Ziggy said no, he would give us a lift back. That was so kind of him.

At about 3, he called to say he was coming to pick us up as the car was finished! We said we didn’t mind walking but he said no he was on his way.

So, replacement windscreen wipers, the hand brake and brakes sorting (the handbrake wouldn’t hold on our drive!) and everything that goes along with a full service and the cost? 240tl (at todays rate £81.52!) A very good price and Ziggy is such a nice man and so obliging. I have been down there several times when something has gone wrong with the car and he has stopped to look at it straight away. His garage is down by the Merit Hotel and his phone number is 0533 854 8511. Having lived in the UK, he also speaks excellent English. I highly recommend him.

In the evening Mal and I watched the film “Ides of March” with George Clooney. A good film.

For anyone with a last minute Christmas present see link  Now 20% off everything and you also receive a £10 e voucher for your next order! And another with free next day delivery see link.

Monday 19th December 2011

We walked round the village first thing and Rosie enjoyed the walk meeting up with her doggie friends.

For anyone looking for a cheap hotel room, Holiday Inn are having a one day sale TOMORROW, reducing rooms to £20. see link. The sale starts at one minute past midnight (UK time) tonight.

Margaretha came round and we pumped my car tyre up. Mal sorted a few things out for her on her computer and then we drove to the tyre place where they discovered an enormous nail in the tyre. They repaired the puncture and the cost…a total of 5 tl!

We then drove to Ziggy’s garage to book a service as one or two things need attention on the car.

Do you fancy a mini cruise to Amsterdam or Bruges? see link.

Scarlet and Jack have been busy making cakes!

Sunday 18th December 2011

Mal and I decided to take Rosie to the beach until we discovered we had a flat tyre! A walk down into the ravine instead.  Margaretha was due to come round the following day and she has an electronic pump and so said she would bring it round, then we could go to the tyre place tomorrow. No problem as we weren’t planning on going anywhere.

We had a nice quiet day and watched 3 premier games of football in the afternoon.

Torin came on the web cam with Scarlet and Jack. Two very excited little children waiting for Christmas. They also sang us some Christmas songs.

We spoke to little Torin in the afternoon as he was staying with Lou and Rhys and then rang the other three boys in the evening.
