Saturday 22nd March 2025

Jack asked if I would work today and so I went in. It sort of makes up for the day I had off when we were away. That’s only in my mind, Jack has no problem with any time off, he is just grateful for volunteers! Quite a busy day but then it gets to about 3pm and goes very quiet.

Meanwhile Mal was at home painting door frames! He also cooked a roast.

Friday 21st March 2025

Wingham Orchards for our walk with Ellie, not quite as far as yesterday.

Two of the Hatters and their friend were coming to Sandwich, so I met them for a coffee. The “Sandwich Spring Market” was on and  it was as rubbish as always. It is a private company who organise it and it is never a great success. Not busy!

England played in the evening and won 2-0 – the qualifiers.

Thursday 20th March 2025

A nice long walk across the fields with Ellie. She seemed up for a long walk but plodded a bit towards the end.

I then had my doctor’s appointment , booked 8 weeks ago. I don’t remember the last time I saw a real doctor! I had to go about my knee and hand, both painful. She was so nice looked at my knee which didn’t match the other knee! She is certain, as she said, for people of a certain age, arthritis. I told her I walk a lot and she told me to continue this and take pain killers if necessary but I’d rather not unless it is really bad. To try and prevent a knee op she is going to send me to a physiotherapist.

The hand she was more suspect about and decided to send me for an X Ray. She gave me all the forms, where to go etc. I chose Deal hospital and made an appointment for the afternoon. There was only one other person there. While I was waiting my phone rang and it was the physiotherapist who made me an appointment for mid April. Within 5 minutes they were calling me in for Xrays.  All done!

I have to say today I am very impressed with the NHS!

Wednesday 19th March 2025

We drove to Eastry to collect my prescription and took Ellie for a walk over the fields the sun was out again. Looks like a lovely day.

Lunch was meeting up with the Red Hatter ladies – Kent Lavender Ladies. Penny has been really ill, Nikki is away and Pam is in the USA.

But the five of us really had a nice lunch and a lot of laughs.

Tuesday 18th March 2025

We took Ellie across the field for her walk. I arrived home and had a phone call from Emma   who I saw at the doctor’s surgery last Monday. The swab result was back and yes I have an ear infection, so she is giving me antibiotics.

I was then off to the dentist in Canterbury for a check up. She asked why I was wearing my old bottom denture and so I reminded her that the one she fitted did NOT fit and had been returned twice and still fell out. She said I should have taken it back again so I asked what the point was, last time she told me to go private to get one that would fit! I will do but not at this surgery. She checked my teeth and cleaned them a bit and that was it. Another appointment in 6 months.

Monday 17th March 2025

A work day, not too busy so we sorted a lot of the stock.  Customers were coming in all day telling me how freezing they were!  The cold comes off the sea at Minnis Bay.

Towards the end of the day a lady came in with her daughter in a pushchair and started telling me how everyone seems to be ill and then proceeded to tell me her daughter has had back to back tonsillitis and told me she felt so ill she felt as if she’d been hit by a train. I moved away from the counter and seriously wondered why they both wanted to spread their germs! Why didn’t they stay at home?!!

Sunday 16th March 2025

Mal’s birthday and his choice was to have Lou, Rhys and the kids over for lunch. Ollie even took the day off work.

First thing Mal opened all his presents and I started preparing the lunch, roast beef, home made chicken pie and liver and bacon….all Mal’s choices.

It was so nice after lunch we went and sat in the garden.

Mal had a lot of presents and said he had the best day. His choice of Birthday cake was Black Forest Gateaux! That was a struggle to find anyone who had them!
