Friday 16th June 2023

I have had enough of sitting around and although the anaesthetic makes me suffer for a few days, I was up early and walked Ellie over the fields. It really is lovely at 6 in the morning.

I then had to get some things from M&S, so I drove to Westwood.  A big mistake. At one place they were digging up the middle of the road and a short distance on, traffic lights and the BUILDERS had shut off half the road. They are just building all the way along the road, every green field is being built on.  I stayed at Westwood longer than planned as I don’t intend coming back any time soon! I managed to find some walking sandals as well, saved another trip! The journey back home was even worse in the heat of the sun, just sitting in traffic jams. So, almost into Sandwich and blow me if they didn’t stop us all at the  Quay, so they could open the bridge for a boat. Not a pleasant trip out! It wouldn’t have been quite so bad if I had taken pain killers with me, I didn’t expect to be that long!

We watched the football in the evening. England won, I should hope so playing Malta.

Thursday 15th June 2023

Mal walked Ellie early avoiding the heat. So far along with pain killers, I am surviving with no nose bleeds.

We had our boiler serviced, a really nice man who replaced the gasket but didn’t charge us.

Ellie (and Mal) having fun!

Mal went to his Jubilee Centre meeting. A resident who died left her house for the benefit of Sandwich town and it looks as though the centre will receive some of the money. Good news.

Wednesday 14th June 2023

Mal was up and walking Ellie early to avoid the heat.

So another day of me doing little but it was really nice sitting in the garden, literally smelling the roses. The Platinum Jubilee rose is beautiful and the smell so strong.

Of course still on the pain killers but no nose bleeds yet……fingers crossed!

Mal had a phone call from one of the trustees of the Jubilee Centre saying that their chairman was resigning as he has too much on, so the trustees are having a meeting tomorrow. So, we sat this afternoon going through everything they need to discuss tomorrow, including marketing which seems to have been left behind!

Along with this, the results were posted about whether people want to carry on with our Red Hatter group questionnaire, as a couple of us predicted, quite a few just want to have a lunch and a natter. Four of us who want to remain (or start our own group) are meeting next Tuesday to decide our way forward.

Tuesday 13th June 2023

I didn’t sleep much, not just because of the weather but because I am back at the dentist today to have another tooth out. In fact the bedroom was cool with the fan on and Ellie sleeps right in front of it!

I took her over the fields at 5am. So peaceful!

I took pain killers then headed off to the dentist. She took X rays first and then told me she may not be able to get it all out in one! She also gave me the anaesthetic without adrenalin (as that one doesn’t agree with me) and then sent me to the waiting room for it to work and to read and sign a long sort of “disclaimer” of everything that could happen after the tooth came out!! Quite scary reading it and I wasn’t given one on the previous visit.

Well eventually, after much yanking, it was out and then more X -rays and yes she did get it all out. She emphasised (I am guessing after last time) that I do nothing for 48 hours. So, I spent the afternoon sitting in the garden, dosing up on pain killers.

Monday 12th June 2023

A very humid day in the Cancer Research shop.  Some people had rain, there was none in Sandwich, so had to water all the plants again at night!

Sunday 11th June 2023

Another lovely day as we walked along the river, early again so that Ellie didn’t get too hot. We watched a family of young squirrels and do they jump!

Having enjoyed the theatre, on the way back home we were discussing what to see next. We already have ‘Hamilton’ booked. We then wondered why we have never seen ‘Phantom of the Opera’. It is still getting excellent reviews so this morning I have put this right and booked!. Of course now I have to book Doggie day care. The guy I have chosen to look after Ellie for our next abroad holiday, we need to let Ellie have a few trial stays with him, so I have booked that for that day  plus a meet and greet.

After Mal had done some much needed watering at the allotment, we left Ellie at home (too hot for her) and walked into town. It is ‘Le Weekend’ & ‘Le Medieval Weekend’. The medieval part was massive this year but I don’t think there were so many French participants. A shame but some chose to leave the EU and it has done us no favours.

We had our lunch at The Quay street food restaurant right next to the river. Our meal was delicious.

Saturday 10th June 2023

The weather forecast was for a very hot day and so I took Ellie out at 5am. Well, the blackbird in the garden wakes me at 4.30 anyway! It is so lovely walking that time of day. Sandwich is preparing for “Le Weekend” but I was obviously up before any of that had started.

The stalls usually go on to the Guildhall Forecourt as well as other places but it hasn’t been finished yet! They have replaced the tiles at great expense (£1.2million). Thank goodness some of the past councillors have been voted out!  There was nothing wrong with the old tiles and were certainly more in character.

We then dropped Ellie off at Lou and Rhys’s and Lou took us to the station where we caught the train to London. We hadn’t realised it was the rehearsal for Trooping the Colour!! So many pavements and roads blocked off by Buck Palace and the park. We eventually managed to have our picnic in the park and it was hot! One of the soldiers passed out. I am not surprised in those heavy uniforms.

We then went to see ‘Aspects of love’ with Michael Ball in it.  It was very good and we both enjoyed it, I am always a bit cautious with Mal and musicals but he said he loved it. Very clever scenery too.

We stopped off for a Thai meal and gin and tonic and then caught the train back. There was no air con in the train but we managed to get the conductor to open a window by unscrewing it,  “I’m not really allowed to!!” So we are supposed to swelter instead?!  Mal was so busy chatting to passengers around us he left his rucksack on the train……………hopeless! Luckily there were only sweets left in there.

Lou picked us up, we collected Ellie and took her home.
