This really amused me when I saw it this morning

We took Ellie to St Mildred’s Bay for her meet up with the Goldie’s Beach Buddies. She loves it there.

Trevor who organises this, the one in the T shirt, was disappointed as there were only 15 goldies there, he always hopes there will be more but I guess a lot of people will be on holiday.

Mal spent more time at the allotment. I made some coleslaw and also a lemon cheesecake.  Ellie slept….exhausted!

Saturday 23rd July 2022

It was hotter than we thought when we went walking after breakfast. Just as we walked out of the horses field Ellie bolted. I saw the same thing as she did, a baby fox. Mal and I both called her but she had gone deep into the wood, eventually she came back having run a long way in the heat. Consequently our walk wasn’t as long as we had planned, she was already panting. It was still a nice walk.

Then we packed, left the cottage and headed to Hythe for lunch on the way home. Driving into Hythe we realised it was a  big mistake, first day of the summer holidays, the car parks were full, the traffic moving so slow, so we changed our minds and decided to go straight home. That was when the nightmare began, I should have known when the sat nav started sending me down single track lanes! I have to say here, I did NOT vote to leave the EU!! And more fool them anyone in south Kent who did. Whichever way we went traffic was at a standstill. M20/Folkestone/Cheriton etc etc.  After sitting waiting for nothing, I reversed 4 times and tried a different route. It was hot, we had Ellie in the back of the car but at least we had water but even so I was thinking we may just find a pub, when the cars did move and even stay the night somewhere. We were trying different sat navs. Don’t ask me how but Waze eventually got us out of it. I think we will be avoiding Dover and Folkestone for the next 6 weeks. I just feel so sorry for all the people sitting in their cars going nowhere.

I wonder if all the people who voted to leave the EU really thought about the consequences.

Eventually back home, unpacked, washing on and I sat in the garden. Mal watered at the allotment and he also cooked dinner.

I had a lovely “Thinking of you” card and pocket  butterfly from my friend Zoe, who I went to college with. She is so thoughtful.

Friday 22nd July 2022

Torin’s 50th Birthday. We went for a long walk and sat in one of the woods for quite a long time. We often walked through woods with Torin and we could feel a little closer just sitting there.

We then went out for lunch at the Conquerors March and sat in the garden and then of course, a Daniel tradition, we had to toast Torin with a Guiness.

From there we went to Hastings sea front, it started raining slightly, so only a short walk and then bought some fresh prawns and crab for tea.

We ate our tea in the garden with a few drinks and lots of memories of Torin.

The dog next door decided he would come and play with Ellie and even tried to take one of her teddies home!

Torin’s best friend Lisa put this on Facebook, they really were soulmates for so many years

“Happy heavenly 50th birthday to my gorgeous best friend Torin (PeterPan) ♥️Not a day goes past when I don’t smile at the memories or talk to you♥️you definitely won’t like 50 because you hated getting older but really it ain’t so bad♥️so on Wednesday I did a thing♥️remember when we found the two pictures of Tinkerbell and PeterPan we liked and we were gonna have matching tattoo’s because we knew our friendship and love for each other would last forever? Well I believe in fate because the day before I went to get our tattoo designed they came up here on my fb memories😲so the wonderfully talented Kitty Hoeg took those designs and made them into something perfect ♥️and at the ripe old age of 50 I got my first tattoo♥️ I hope you love it as much as I do babe ♥️It’s behind my ear as this way it will only show when my hair is up on a sunny day as you hated the winter so much.we are holding hands as we both always ended our texts with” I‘ll always be there to hold your hand”So now not only will you always be in my heart ,you’ll be behind my ear too( calling me a loon no doubt like you often did🫣🙄😘)Oh my darling what I wouldn’t do for one of your huge bear hugs right now😓So ,happy birthday, my beautiful boy, hope you’re up there enjoying a few espresso martinis tonight, remember that night we got so tipsy on them we danced in the pub garden like no one was watching 😳🫣😅 until we fly together again my angel😘Love you to the moon and stars and back again, forever your Tink 🧚🏽🧚🏽🧚🏽🧚🏽🧚🏽🧚🏽🧚🏽 XXXX”

She showed me the photos of the tattoo she had done, before showing anyone else.

Such a special friend of Torins.

Thursday 21st July 2022

Mal and I had booked to stay in an AirBandB out in the wilds, so that we could commemorate Torin’s Birthday. On the way we stopped at Hythe and had our lunch at Truly Scrumptious, we only have a snack but the food is always good. We then drove on to the AirBandB, we don’t think it had an address as it was stuck out in the wilds and we went past it twice before we phoned and found it.

A lovely cottage and a really nice huge garden with a carp pond and horses and ducks and geese at the bottom of the garden. It wasn’t the easiest place to get to Guestling/Fairlight, in fact we don’t think it was in either. So, as I could never get skate when we were this way before, Mal phoned a chippie with Just Eat and yes they had it. Mal waited at the top of the road in case they couldn’t find it and even the owners of the property when we later told them, were surprised that he found it! So we had our fish and a few drinks in the beautiful garden.

Torin would have loved it, a real back to nature as you could walk past the stables and you were on to miles of countryside and woods.

Wednesday 20th July 2022

We both took Ellie out for a walk as it wasn’t so hot, in fact quite a breeze so we took her for a run over the fields.

We had a storm during the night which freaked Ellie out a bit as the bedroom blind was flapping backwards and forwards. It did clear the air quite a bit.

I met Jackie at lunchtime so that we could sort out some more Hatters trips and the monies given for tickets. We do work a bit along with having lunch!

Another show we are going to book for next January.

Tuesday 19th July 2022

I was out with Ellie at 5.30 to avoid the heat and then she knew exactly what to do when we were home. After all she is a Cyprus dog! head on the cool mat and let the fan cool her!

Mal had an allotment meeting in the afternoon, the council contingent decided to have the meeting at the Guildhall rather than at the allotment because of the heat.

We spent most of the day keeping cool, after all we have lived in this heat for months at a time in Cyprus, so doesn’t seem too bad for us. Of course all the news is that the temperature at 40.3 deg is the highest ever in this country.

Monday 18th July 2022

As we often do, we booked another holiday while we were away, again to the Isle of Wight BUT I will be driving, far quicker and this time a week in a luxury lodge in a “woodland hide away. ” Next year. Of course Ellie will come with us.

We had breakfast and then started the long journey back. I have to say it was lovely sitting on the sun deck of the ferry.

Thankfully we had excellent air con in the coach. We were being told it would be the hottest temperature the UK has ever known. Outside the coach and when we stopped for lunch it was getting warm.

Explaining how many stops and the distance covered, when we stopped at 1.10, I put on my sat nav and it told me we were 1 hour 9 minutes from home. We arrived in Deal at 5.45!! That is why next time I am driving! We collected the car which cooled down quite quickly and went straight to collect Ellie from Rhys’s. She had been having fun in the pool.

Back home and the house cooled down quickly with the air con and fans.
