We walked Ellie around the woods and then went in for breakfast. She can come into the conservatory with us and had her sausage!

We are members of English Heritage and spent the morning at Battle Abbey. We have been before and so the morning was enough but it means we can use their car park free. The photo with Mal in it was the place where the Battle was in 1066.

We had our lunch in the garden of Bonney’s. It was really nice there and very popular, maybe because so many eateries we used to know in the area have sadly closed down. There were several shops gone too, such a shame.

In the afternoon we wandered around Battle and then the hotel grounds . In the evening it was still very warm so we sat out by the pool. Ellie had rolled all over the grass which was why she was grubby!

We packed some things and then headed off for our favourite hotel in Battle. Third time lucky. We had a booking for March, then Covid, it was put forward until August but the hotel decided to open later than most and so it was moved again to September! At last! We have really been looking forward to it even though things won’t be the same.

We stopped for a walk around Hamstreet woods, a lovely walk with Ellie.

We then had  lunch at The Three Oaks, a pub we have been to before. They are a really nice couple who own it. Of course we sat out in the garden with Ellie. Mal loved his ham egg and chips! The telephone box just outside was full of paperbacks!

From there, not far to the Powdermills Hotel. It must be about 25 years we have been coming here and always with whatever dog/s we have had at the time. It is extremely dog friendly. We checked in and were given details of how we have breakfast etc. (Due to Covid) We have to wear masks in all public areas in the hotel. The staff will not be servicing our rooms during our stay but we just have to ask for clean towels/refills etc.

We unpacked and then went for a walk around the hotel’s woods and had sandwiches in the grounds.

In the evening we had drinks by the pool.

Ellie settles down with her cuddly toy, for a good nights sleep!

We took Ellie for her walk and then I had to go to Westwood for some clothes I ordered. Thankfully this time they fit. I think most people just try them on in the shops even though you are not allowed to. I don’t!

Mal cleaned the car out and checked everything. Not that we have been doing that much driving this year!

Ellie and I went out for a walk at 6.30, the sun was coming up and it really was a lovely quiet walk.

Later Lou, Ollie, Oscar and Josie arrived and we all went to the allotment. The grapes are still doing well.

We then came back here for lunch which we ate in the garden as it was still very sunny.

After walking Ellie we met Tris and Violet at Wingham Wildlife Park. It was far busier than we expected, which meant we didn’t stay too long.

A really nice morning so we decided to take Ellie for a walk in Deal/Walmer. We had no idea they are strengthening the sea defences!

So, we walked on to Kingsdown. We stopped and had coffee at the Zealand Arms. It may be recognisable from Joanne Froggatt’s programme she was in, ‘Liar’.

We saw two policemen on the walk back to the car. They chatted to us and we told them how rare it is to see a policeman, let alone two together! They told us Deal has 6! No wonder they were having a stroll along the sea front! We never see any in Sandwich but they told us there is a female officer here.

In the afternoon Mal painted the damp sealant on the conservatory wall…it stinks!

I went to Birchington, to the butchers. He has amazing deals and excellent meat. I also managed to dash in and out of a charity shop and buy 2 new teddy bears for Ellie. She does love to play with bears! On the way back I called into Home Bargains for some garden things.

They have 4 aisles of Christmas things already! Well, I guess it is September!!

My shopping is very quick nowadays. It is no fun in crowds and also wearing a mask. If it is too busy, I don’t bother.
