I really don’t know what is going on with the Covid testing. It is all over the news that no one can get tested locally. When we went to the hospital on Monday, half our car park had been taken over and roped off for Covid testing…….a lot of staff there but no takers!!! Perhaps everyone should go to Kent and Canterbury hospital!

When we were out with Ellie, I called into the Co-op for a couple of bits. There was an elderly lady a couple of tills along and although I didn’t hear it all, it was obvious her card was not working and she couldn’t understand why and was becoming quite distressed. The cashier suggested she have it checked at her bank. I have had this happen to me recently and had to have a replacement card. However, there was a builder standing behind her in the queue and he offered to pay for her shopping, in fact he insisted. What a kind man. It does restore your faith in “people”.

In the evening we packed ready for a holiday in the Isle of Wight.

A hot day was forecast and so I walked Ellie early. We saw the man with two retrievers who we always stop and chat to. He only had one, sadly lost the older one two weeks ago, he suddenly became very ill. How sad.

At the end of the walk, through the cemetery, one of the workers was there, tidying the edgings, he must have started his day very early. He said he was surprised how many parakeets there were around here and we watched a noisy sparrowhawk trying to catch one.

We had breakfast and then straight to the allotment before it became too hot. Ellie has now got used to Nelson, the allotment one eyed cat. The cats in Cyprus used to swipe her face so she is quite relieved Nelson appears friendly!

I weeded in between the paving in the garden in the afternoon and Mal mowed the lawn.

In the evening we watched a fascinating programme, “Britain’s Biggest Dig.” Who knows my ancestors may be there!

It was such a lovely day and also the fact we were to be out in the afternoon so we took Ellie for some exercise at Stone Bay.

After lunch we drove to Kent and Canterbury Hospital for my long awaited Maxillofacial appointment. It took us ages to find the right car park. Mal wasn’t allowed in the hospital. I had my temperature taken and then sent to the department. I waited for a quarter of an hour after my appointment time. Then Ann, the lady I saw before had a long chat with me, asked if I was happy having the work done etc etc. Eventually she went to look in my mouth and I said to be careful as I had a cold sore at the side of my mouth. She immediately said she didn’t want to do anything as I would end up with more over my face as it would spread!

She then said following our chat it would probably be better to see me after I see my own dentist when we would have a plan!  I wasn’t able to get an appointment with my own dentist until October, so I hope she does have a plan. Meanwhile the receptionist at the hospital couldn’t make the next appointment as that has to be done at Ashford Hospital.

I am beginning to think this is just going to go on and on and on……………..

As Mal says, if I lose my front teeth at least I will be wearing a mask……ha ha!

Lou came round with Ollie, Oscar and Josie and we all went to the allotment.

I went home a little early just to finish the Sunday roast off which we all enjoyed and also sent a plate home for Rhys. He started back working this weekend.

We had another apple crumble and Ollie said it was the best one I had made!! We have so many apples at the allotment so they took a lot home.

I later watched Spurs beaten by Everton.

I went shopping. Mal always manages to get out of it! I can’t say I enjoy it at all any more as other people don’t seem to take much care, don’t wear masks etc etc. Then I have to juggle my mask/glasses and also the mask catches on my ear rings and one came out!

Mal went to the allotment to fetch our vegetables for dinner. I planted a few new things in the garden.

We had our breakfast, walked Ellie in the woods, packed our things, paid the bill and left.

It had been a very weird stay. Every time we took Ellie out to do her business it was with face masks on and then back on going back into the hotel. The way we were served our meals was also very different and of course our room wasn’t cleaned, we just had to ask for things as we needed them, so it wasn’t really the “being waited on” experience we normally have there. Of course not their fault but I have to say the service wasn’t as good, as they all seem a little confused. Then , aren’t we all?!!

We drove back towards Rye. There are so many lovely woods along the way. We didn’t stay long in Rye, it was a little like a ghost town, the shops that haven’t closed down were opening late so we drove the rest of the way home.

Mal watered the allotment, I watered the garden and sorted the washing etc.

We had a lovely breakfast in the conservatory, where we can take Ellie. It’s all very odd with no white tablecloths and most of your meal being brought to the table altogether on one huge tray.  You can also have it as room service if you prefer. We like it on our own in the conservatory! Still trying to keep away from the masses.

We then went off to Alexandra Park in Hastings. We haven’t been there before but it is an amazing park with plenty to see and keep you occupied for the day. Again a lovely sunny day.

There was plenty of space to take Ellie for a very long walk and also a woodland walk and lakes and we had a snack for our lunch at the park cafe. Ellie even had some ice cream!

Later in the afternoon we explored the hotel’s woods.

In the evening we ate in the hotel. We opted to sit outside overlooking the pool.
