As people may have noticed, a lot of our “Red Hatters” don’t wear their hats and fascinators aren’t hats. Our Queen has written to everyone to remind them. I am not sure it has gone down too well but why join Red Hatters if you don’t want to wear purple and a red hat!? There are the only 2 rules……red hats and purple clothes! That’s the fun of it, to reach the age we are and go a little crazy! I know since I lost Torin, friends in the Hatters have helped a lot.

I have started bereavement counselling with a lovely very experienced lady. Today was my second visit and again it was very good.

I received more clubcard vouchers from Tesco. I often buy my petrol from there but never take much notice of the clubcard deals, so I decided to take a look to see what was on offer and how many vouchers I have. We discovered they will give 3x for Butlins music events. I didn’t know that before so we booked for “The Great British Folk Festival”.

The day at Demelza and Mondays seem to be picking up and we did quite well.

At last someone is doing something about the dead fish in the river.

I heard from Rhys and they arrived safely at their holiday destination so I hope they have a really good time.

After Ellie’s walk we started preparing food for a BBQ. Lou and Rhys are off to Spain tomorrow, so Lou brought Roddie round as he is staying with us. A nice surprise, Tariq came as well as he is off from the Marines for 6 weeks.

Roddie settles in well and just went to his basket when it was bed time. He is no trouble.

More decorating, or rather sanding down. A new sander that is supposed to vacuum the debris up. Not very successful. It took quite a lot of cleaning up after it went everywhere!

We took Ellie to Minnis Bay for a good run. The disgusting sea weed is starting to settle there. It seems to happen every summer and stinks. I think it is just beginning. Strangely the beaches dogs are allowed on seem clearer then the humans only ones! You can tell it is tourist season, the RNLI are patrolling and also there is a dog bowl left by the sink at their hut.

Mal went to the allotment and we had runner beans for dinner. I love them!

Ellie and I were out early. She was a little jumpy and kept looking behind her. I think she was reacting after the rottweiler yesterday.

We went out for lunch. Mal joined a Diners Club and so we thought we would try it out at Azouma. He phoned yesterday afternoon to book for today’s lunch. The answerphone was on so he left a message with all the details. He checked with them just before we left. They denied that they had the call, it is registered on Mal’s phone (!) and then said we couldn’t use Diners card at lunchtime. It certainly doesn’t say that in the Diners club info! What can I say the man was so rude to Mal, we will never be going there again. Mal has written to Diners club and will also be doing a Trip Advisor review. What is wrong with these people? He only had to call us back and say it wasn’t for lunchtime and Diners Club had made a mistake.

Instead we went to Chom Chom and had a really nice meal. I love their Thai curry. Mal had lamb vindaloo. They had lots of salads to start and desserts included fresh fruit salad which I had. Mal had two portions of chocolate gateau!

On our walk this morning it was confirmed, talking to others that some of the fish are dying in the river. So much for Dover District Council “re-wilding”!

Later I went off to the Red Hatters Garden Party at Tootsies. There were quite a lot of us, we all took some food with us and were having a lovely time until the heavens opened for 10 minutes. It soaked all the cushions and we had to run indoors.

As a dear friend of mine mentioned after seeing the above photos “Red fascinators are not red hats”! Yes more slapped wrists at the next meeting!

Back home and later in the evening Mal took Ellie over the field. A rottweiler arrived, they let it off the lead and it ran straight for Ellie and attacked her. Mal intervened, dragging it off her as the owner didn’t seem to manage it. I think Mal shouted a few very choice words to the owner and he had also punched the dog to get it off. Ellie came home with blood on her ear and very shaken. If people can’t control their dogs then why do they let them off?! It is a dog owner we have never seen before.
