We walked Ellie and then packed a few things and drove off to Rye. We booked two nights in a hotel there where we have stayed before. It’s really nice and relaxing for a couple of days away from it all.  Parking is not the easiest but we managed to get the last space by the hotel and then they gave us a residents parking permit for the next two days. 

 
As we were early we walked just down the road to the Corridor which is our favourite cafe and they always make such a fuss of Ellie. We had some lunch there and double shot coffees which come as standard! Of course Ellie just settles down by the table.

We had a wander around Rye and then in the evening we tried a new “dog friendly” pub for dinner. It was the Ypres Castle Inn (Wipers), They are in Camra’s Good Pub guide so excellent for Mal, a real ale lover but also the food was fantastic.

We walked back to the hotel and then sat outside in their garden for a while watching the moon and stars, in between the cloud and Ellie had a run around.

We beat the rain again and took Ellie to the orchards. We haven’t been there for quite a while and as we walked the other side of the fence to the lions (Wingham Wildlife) one of them started roaring and Ellie was quite freaked out. She has obviously forgotten when we heard the same lion all the time when we had lived next door to the Wild life park.

They are also scrubbing a couple of the orchards.

 It started raining just after we arrived home and conveniently Lorna’s workman came to sort our side door out. We told her before Christmas but the workers were off for a long time. We were at the point of not being able to shut it at all as it had swollen so much. He shaved a lot off the door and we also told him the curtain rail had fallen down in the living room. Mal tried to make another hole but the wall was just crumbling away. He’s coming back another day to sort that out.
 
In the evening we watched the film “Their Finest”. A good film.
 
A good start to the new year, both Hammers and Spurs won their matches.

Rhys worked until the early hours and they still invited us to a roast and it was lovely with slow cooked lamb. The older boys were all out.

So, a lovely lunch, good company and we even had a few games of Dobble which Josie had for Christmas and it becomes very addictive. We have all been playing it.

Rhys had been recording The Strongest Man and so we watched some episodes of that.
