We took Ellie for a lovely walk in the sun! That was a surprise but the ground was still very muddy. The “lady of the manor” (our landlady Lorna) has now given us permission to use her wood which she has marked as “Private Property” and banned others from using. We are privileged , so we took Ellie through there. All we could hear were the woodpeckers. 

Lunchtime I met up with the Red Hatters. This time we had a couple of new ladies joined us so that was good. We had lunch at the Racing Greyhound and then a meeting to decide what we will do for the next few months.

We took Ellie for her walk and it was very misty. Mal and I then went shopping. We are checking out carpet prices and also a new bed. They seem to have gone up in price a lot and now we have to decide what sort of bed we want. The one in the spare room which is about three years old is better than ours but is an ottoman bed. This is a total pain when moving and it has to be taken apart . We’ll have to think about it.

It seems like a mammoth task trying all the beds out and in the third shop I told Mal I was bored and let’s do it another day. They also told us that you are no longer allowed to take your old mattress to the tip, they have to be “properly” disposed of. I am not sure how true that is but it may account for mattresses dumped in beauty spots around the country.

A day at Demelza when we all decided no one has any money after Christmas. However I think the staff made up for the lack of customers! I bought a pair of long furry boots and downstairs where we have all the occasion wear and bridal gowns I found a lovely Jacques Verts summer dress. I also found a nice M&S leather jacket that Fran bought. Between the four of us we managed to boost the sales! 

I have to say the stock room looked a little as though we had been burgled, there were so many donations.

Out with Ellie then it was a bit of a clean up day.

We watched the Hammers game. That was a waste of time, an awful game! We should have watched Spurs instead!

We took Ellie for her walk and this time went round by some of the horses. She hasn’t seen them for quite a while and started running backwards and forwards playing with them.

Tariq goes back to Marines tomorrow so Lou cooked another roast for all of us. I took the trifle as Tariq loves my trifle and won’t be having another for a long time! He’ll have to get used to the hard slog as soon as he is back.

We took Ellie for a short walk before having breakfast.  Our plan for the day was to walk the heritage walk around Rye. It started raining and we said perhaps we would pack our things up and wait a while in the lounge but the weather didn’t improve, in fact it became worse. So we left Rye.

Of course as usual we went to our favourite wet fish shop on the way out of Rye. We always buy some crabs and sea bass. They didn’t have any crabs as the sea was too rough and they won’t sell frozen ones.  In the end we bought prawns, sea bass and skate and dropped the skate off for Lou and Rhys on the way home. He is such a good fishmonger and was telling us all sorts of things we didn’t know about fish. Skate and Huss are part of the shark family and neither should be left hanging around in a fridge. The rule with both of them is eat or freeze on the day they are caught!! If not you get that awful ammonia smell.

No chance of them hanging around in our fridge!

Mal cooked the sea bass in the evening as he does, his speciality stuffed with spring onions and ginger. Delicious.

We woke up to rain, took Ellie into the garden and then back in to have breakfast. By the time we finished the rain had stopped and we went for a very long walk. The rain may have stopped but it was very windy. We had ordered a parcel to be delivered by Amazon to their agent in Rye. We intended wrapping it and mailing it to Mal’s brother in plenty of time for his birthday. It was supposed to be there between 7-9am. We felt it a little impersonal just to get Amazon to send it direct……big mistake, Amazon Prime has messed up again! Twice we have been to the place, even though we were messaged to say it had been delivered….no it hadn’t! What a waste of time. We were really disappointed. 

We had our lunch in The Queens Head, the pub was almost empty.

We then went on to the Heritage Centre and it was shut! It only opens Saturdays and Sundays this time of year! I was also surprised to see all the Easter eggs in the local supermarket!

I think we walked so much during the day and it was so windy we decided just to have a bar snack in the hotels bar in the evening. 

I guess we were both happy as it was a draw between Hammers and Spurs!
