Mal and I took Ellie to Minster for a walk across the fields as we had an appointment at the vets for her. She has a small lump on her nose and has had for about 4 weeks. We saw the female vet, Debbie,  who said she didn’t know what it was! She has given her antibiotics for a week and see if it clears up. That was a very quick 5 minutes for £44!  It’s the little dark spot on her nose. The light mark at the end of her nose is where I bought her a knuckle bone and she keeps burying it and then digging it up and she scraped it all! I think it maybe because of William the dog next door who comes in and helps himself!

It was sunny and so we decided to take Ellie for a long walk to Wickhambreaux. Ellie loves the walk as it is all along the riverside . Of course she runs in and out and then rolls in the mud!

We had a drive round looking at different areas for houses as we are a bit out of touch because we have been away so long.

I had forgotten not to take any notice of the weather forecasts! It said it was not going to rain until 11.  We were back home by 10 and we were quite wet in the “non rain”. Even Lorna’s horses had their coats on.

We went into Canterbury and looked in a few estate agents. We did go into one but got so fed up with the girl saying “Oh yeah, cool” we didn’t bother with any more. Instead we went to Tulips, a Turkish restaurant we haven’t been to before. They did a special lunchtime menu and so we had starters and then kleftico for £7.99! A bargain. It was good Kleftico too.

We watched the football in the evening, Not much to say about that.

I went into work, to Demelza. If I’m honest I had to force myself to go and get back to some sort of normality. I nearly turned back but I needn’t have worried, everyone there was so nice and normal, well as normal as that bunch can be, we all get on so well together. They are really good friends. Jack, bless him said he had really missed me. I guess we all get used to parents who have used Demelza Hospice coming in the shop so we have learnt to understand a bit better.

It was good keeping busy and we took quite a lot of money. Of course there is a lot of Christmas stock in.

While I was at work Mal’s sister Deb and her partner Dave had been to visit to see how we are coping. Mal told Deb where I worked. She always said if we returned to the UK there would be a job at her charity that she runs, TAG.  Mal told her he doesn’t mind me taking handbags/clothes home each Monday but another dog would be very different!

We invited Lou and Rhys, Ollie, Oscar and Josie round for Sunday lunch, hoping we could lift Rhys’s spirits up. So, we were out early in the rain with Ellie and Mal went on to the allotment. He told me not to buy parsnips or carrots as he would dig them at the allotment. He then arrived home with two bags of carrots from the local shop. The rabbits had eaten all the parsnips and carrots!! We weren’t impressed. Of course because of things, he hadn’t been down there since before we went to Cyprus. I did have other vegetables but had been looking forward to the home grown!

Thankfully Rhys was a lot better, I have never seen him so low before. I guess each of us suffers at different times but we just have to help each other. It is not easy. But we had a nice lunch even if I say so myself, with three courses. Rhys loves banoffee pie, which I tried to buy in three shops but no one had any. If I had more notice I could have made one. I will next time.

At least we managed to get seven of us in the dining room along with all the unpacked boxes from Cyprus! 

We also had a marathon game of I-Spy!

We took Ellie out and then went to see a house with the possibility of buying but we weren’t too impressed, perhaps our hearts are not really in it at the moment.

I have to say a huge thank you to the many readers who have sent me such lovely comforting messages. They mean a lot to Mal and I. The ironic thing is the reason I gave at my interview to become a volunteer at Demelza, it was because I just couldn’t imagine the pain of losing your child.  I must be thankful for 45 years, many of the parents using Demelza have very few years.

As I do each day, on to happier things and remembering the good things rather than the pain.

It must be officially Christmas as the John Lewis advert has been released today! I do think £7 million is excessive.  Homeless people are at record levels and all this money spent. Priorities have been lost somewhere. 

I went shopping and we unpacked a few boxes. It’s quite interesting discovering things we had forgotten. 

Mal did some paperwork, not easy but has to be done.

We watched the football in the evening. No goals!
