We were out walking before it became too warm, Ellie trying really hard to catch a squirrel up a tree…no chance!

In the evening the landlord came over on his sit on mower. Mal had already mown our garden but he said he would do the garden/field beyond our garden. We can have that too but there is a ditch running down the side and Ellie would love to jump in it and it’s smelly. It’s nice that he will mow every fortnight. He asked how we like it here and to let them know if anything needs fixing. Nice man.

We walked Ellie and then Mal went to the allotment while I caught up with things around the house.

After lunch we both set to clearing loads more bags of stingers from the garden and actually discovered roses, so we have made a border down the opposite side of the garden to where I was clearing last week.

In the evening Keith, the vet came round. Mal is helping him with some computer ideas. I could hear them in the other room, competing with the bell ringers. We forgot that happens on a Tuesday night. I guess it won’t be so bad when we don’t have all the doors and windows open. We also have one of the sheep bah-ing and that sounds as though he is in our back garden, in fact Mal thought it had got through the fence and had got in!!

The agents have finally decided we are entitled to have our full deposit back for the last cottage. I should think so, it really was cleaner and the garden was tidier than when we moved in.

I worked (volunteered) at Demelza as I always do on Mondays. We really do have a laugh and get on very well together. In the afternoon there was only Jack and I in but we manage perfectly well.  I did pop out at lunchtime and found some brand new curtains in the Cancer charity shop! We didn’t have any long enough in our shop. Jack told me I was a traitor but never mind.

Mal cooked and it was such a nice evening we had dinner in the garden. He had mowed the lawn during the day. I must get round to getting rid the rest of the stinging nettles!

Torin had to get back home and so they left fairly early.

He is gutted because he wanted to be the youngest marine passing out but he won’t be now and obviously his platoon progresses without him and when he is finally fit he will join another platoon. When he finishes he won’t be sent on assignments with his best friends, so perhaps it’s all good experience for him now.

So, Rhys did a lovely BBQ, far too much food as usual! River and his girlfriend came over too. It was really sunny and warm so after the food we all walked down to the pier where the littlies went on some of the rides, we all had a ‘beer on the pier’ and Ellie had an ice cream.  It was a lovely afternoon.

We took Ellie for a walk around the orchards. The apricots seem really advanced but a lot have dropped.

Torin, Scarlet and Jack arrived and gave me my birthday presents and cards. We sat outside in the garden and then went out to lunch at Chom Chom in Canterbury.

Rain and more rain. I went shopping early and so Mal took Ellie and she evidently could almost swim in some of the puddles. Mal met up with Jo and did half the walk with her. They came across an injured squirrel who had severely damaged its spine and there was a man who was putting it out of its misery. I am glad I wasn’t there.

Jo’s daughter wants some revision help with Maths so Mal has offered to help at half term. Again when Jo offered money Mal told her “pay it forward” which she had never heard of, so he explained. We’ll never be rich but a good feeling that someone else will gain in the future.

Mal went to his allotment and brought some radishes and spinach home. He has done a lot of digging now that the soil is softer.

Early evening I started cooking dinner while Mal took Ellie out. He came back having seen a swarm of bees on the fence at the other side of the churchyard. He rang the “bee man” to come and collect them.

My birthday and all I asked for from Mal was to have a day off from sorting the house out!  I did get a lot of presents, things that I must have mentioned over time and Mal remembered. So, I opened all my presents and cards and Mal cooked breakfast for us. We then took Ellie to Minnis Bay and had a really nice walk along the beach and then sat outside the Minnis and had a coffee. Ellie is always very good when we stop in cafes or restaurants.

I just wanted a relaxing day doing very little, there’s been too much excitement lately! There were lots of birthday phone calls in the morning.

Tariq who is training in the Marines has been telling Rhys that he has been having a bit of a problem with his leg. But he had a good time in France and was chosen to lay the wreath when they were there visiting the battlefields.

Yesterday he was doing an 8 mile yomp and they pulled him off 400 metres from the end as he was struggling to put weight on his leg but he is very determined. He messaged me this morning and he has been sent to sick bay and has a stress fracture in his femur. Poor thing but he is in the best place. When we went to their family day they showed us their medical centre for rehabilitation and the equipment they have is the best in the country, as they said better than any of the premier football clubs! This will be another mental challenge for him, coping with being injured but as they told us then, most of them get injuries, they are expected!! They push them to the limit it is bound to happen.

A nice relaxing day and then in the evening we went to The Dog at Wingham. We used to go there a lot and have even stayed overnight there.  It has now changed hands and been completely refurbished. We had a Groupon voucher (of course!) and the food was excellent and the staff very good so we will be going back there as it is nearby.

I had a lovely day and the meal rounded it off perfectly. More to come over the weekend!
