More walking, this time around the orchards. We were thinking of going to Reculver but it looked as if it may rain and so changed our minds. There were quite a few rabbits around, which Ellie was very interested in.

In the evening we went to Broadstairs Blues Bash. The Blues Band were headlining the whole weekend. I managed to get tickets a long time ago. A weird system of paying by Paypal and then taking along your receipt and a form of ID. Last week I received an email saying they now predicted a bun fight so had allocated us seats L8&9. No information on a start time so I looked on the website. A 7.30 start. Because of the distance and parking problems, we arrived at 7. They wouldn’t let us in, saying it was now going to start at 8pm! Chatting to people in the queue, not all the other people had  been allocated  seats, so we had to wait while a representative sorted everyone out! We eventually were let in only to discover that our seats were  one row from the back and the bar was right behind us. Never mind. Well, we wouldn’t have, had we not had an enormous  air con unit blowing very cold air on to our backs. The guy I was sitting next to went to the bar and asked them to turn it off as we were freezing. They did, for 10 minutes and then we spent the rest of the concert with our coats back on!

The concert started at 8.30 but the people at the bar didn’t stop talking/laughing/shouting and of course that was just behind us. Even Paul Jones got a bit miffed about it. The Blues Band are excellent, considering Paul Jones is 73 and Tom McGuiness 74 and their music great. However it would have been even better had they changed their set, even slightly from when we saw them last year!! Even the same jokes. Brilliant music, shame about the rest!

We had breakfast and then “Granny Sue” collected Tris and Violet to go and see the Mermaid who skated at the theatre. Grandad told Violet that was impossible but she didn’t listen to him! Violet wanted to walk Ellie but we thought it was better if she didn’t get covered in mud to go to the theatre.

Mal and I walked Ellie as soon as they left and the sun was out and really quite warm. Another long walk.

In the afternoon I met up with the Red Hatters or to be more precise, the Krimson Krinklees and we went to watch the Police pantomime, Robin Hood. We all agreed it was so bad it was good. You have to hand it to them over the last few years they have raised £80,000 for charity, so we had to support them. It really was funny when they were forgetting their lines etc and we had a special mention!

Tristan and Violet arrived in the morning so we collected them from Canterbury station. After lunch we all went to Minnis Bay. We went paddling and searching all the rock pools. Violet managed to go just a little too deep and the sea went over the top of her wellies and her feet were soaked and it was cold!

Of course Ellie loved it to running in and out of the sea.

Oh, It’s a bit chilly this morning…..

2016-02-17 09-36-56 - 0003

…frost all over the lawn, so I topped up the bird feeder.

The man from the insurance company came to replace the component in our tumble drier. He explained that the ones that had caught fire were driers where people had left the fluff in them for a year and more and never bothered cleaning them! At least the insurance company responded far quicker than the manufacturers. They told us they would call in June! We were given an 8-11 slot and he arrived at 9. So our walk was later than usual. We saw another heron, (next to the swan.)

For those interested, the weather is looking up in North Cyprus, it’s going to be 26 degrees.

Mal went to his Preston allotment. He has a lot to do there protecting everything from the rabbits, that is what is taking the time. The Parish council were going to erect anti rabbit fences but of course they haven’t done it yet.

Oh my goodness, not more in Turkey. This time five dead in Ankara from a car bomb. The death toll later went up to the horrendous number of 28.

There was a mist when we woke up but as we started walking the sun came out.

It was a glorious morning so we walked all around the orchards in Wingham. In fact we walked for two hours it was so nice! I was asked if I would take part in “Walk in Her Shoes” for the charity CARE UK, so that is what I am building up to, for week starting 21st March, to walk 10,000 steps each day for a week.

We came upon an orchard with new fruit trees in it. Not sure what fruit they are yet.

The mist had left some lovely cobwebs on the trees.

In the evening we were off out again, we seem to be busy but it is what we missed in Cyprus! Tonight it was to Kent Uni to see Fairport Convention, They never fail to impress. Of course by now (formed in 1967) they have a huge repertoire, so there’s always something different. They did an excellent take off of Steeleye Span!

I learnt after the show that the very talented fiddle player, Dave Swarbrick is in hospital, in ITU. I wish him well.

A cold wind as we trudged over the fields quite early. Our theory was the ground would still be frozen, oh no it wasn’t because the sun was out! A muddy dog and wellies caked in mud again.

I had an email from David saying they were expecting temperatures of 26 degrees. Maybe but February can be very changeable in Cyprus and cold at night! He also told me Steve Dickinson no longer has his name over his offices! At least someone there took our money and renewed our house insurance. I’m not sure what has happened to Steve.

I went to Westwood to collect a birthday present I had ordered. There weren’t many people about considering it is half term. I guess people were keeping warm indoors.

A cold walk along the River Stour but at least it didn’t rain until we were home.

Mid morning there was a knock at the door. I did wonder who it was as not the postman on a Sunday. Well, I had a delivery of a dozen red roses. Mal doesn’t always do that so it was a lovely surprise as he told me the dance classes were my present!! Aaaah! Very much appreciated. It doesn’t look like it from the photo but they are a very deep dark red, lovely.

The Leicester/Arsenal game was very good, such a shame Arsenal scored the winning goal in the fifth minute of four minutes extra time!

Yeah, Spurs won their game and are now second in the league.
