Torin woke up with “man flu” and Scarlet was still not well, having been off school for three days AND it was snowing, time to leave!! Torin made us some breakfast and then off we headed to the airport. I hadn’t been able to decide at home what clothes to bring and what I had left in Cyprus. When I arrived at the airport I suddenly remembered that I had photographed everything in my wardrobes and cupboards before I left last time just for this very reason. How organised of me…….if only I had remembered that! Old age is a terrible thing.

The flight was delayed, something to do with air traffic controllers in Istanbul but at least we managed to persuade them to give us leg room seats but I have grown to hate that journey. It is so long with the stop in Istanbul. Mal spent most of the journey chatting to a man named Bill who owns a computer magazine company in the UK. Him and his wife hadn’t been to north Cyprus before.

The usual guy from Acmenya was waiting for us at Ercan, so he could drive us back to the office, which is just down the road from us. When we arrived there he just gave us a car and told us to sort it out in the office another day. Ali knows me well enough to know it will get sorted. It would have been nice if the petrol tank was not on empty though. The driver did offer to stop at Ileli so we could get some shopping but we said thanks but we would leave it until tomorrow. Just too tired.

Another beautiful day for a walk (or run!) around the orchards.

 

We packed our cases and then took Ellie to Lou and Rhys’s as they are looking after her while we are away. Then on to Torin’s. After school Scarlet and Jack had a second birthday opening presents from us. Jack is really into his lego and is very good at it. Unfortunately Scarlet has been off school not well for the last three days, so she wasn’t enjoying it all quite as much as usual. But we managed to have a lot of fun and they were allowed to stay up late. Torin cooked us a lovely Jamaican meal too.

Happy Birthday to Scarlet and Jack who are 7 today.

It was nice and sunny for a long walk around the orchards.

The apple trees are now all starting to bud.

I ordered  a stand for Ellie’s food and drink from Wilko. Sometimes she will have a drink and then suffer from reflux so I thought this would be the answer.I ordered it online on Sunday to be delivered to their Westwood store. We popped in yesterday and they said it wasn’t there. Well, they told me one day for delivery AND they took the money from my Paypal account on 1st. A long call to customer service and a sorry we don’t know what has happened to it! Oh we’ll refund the money. I said yes please and seeing as you haven’t offered anything else then I will tell everyone your service is rubbish. After a lot of discussing breach of contract, the fact they took the money and no goods, they are going to give me £5 compensation! Better than nothing I guess.

We started packing as we are heading for Torin’s tomorrow. In the evening we watched the programme on Pompeii, we have been there, a fascinating place.

As people will know we have our villa in Cyprus for sale. We are not in a rush and have it with agents over there but we won’t give them a key as David and Kenny are looking after the property.  So, Esta agency phoned David last week as they had a viewer for Monday. David went over and unsecured the property, unlocked all the shutters, checked the pool and sat and waited……………and waited ……and waited. After an hour and a half he called Esta, no answer!! Much later, David having locked all the property up again, Esta phoned saying they had a missed call and didn’t know who it was from. David told them who he was and had sat waiting for them to arrive..  “Oh yes, the viewers changed their mind.” said Esta. At this stage I would write, I can’t believe their lack of courtesy, but hey this is Cyprus, of course I believe it!  Poor David that really was not fair.

Well I think we know historically that the south of Cyprus would like a deal favourable to themselves. Of course the talks are still ongoing but with attitudes like this perhaps not for much longer.. Here is yet another demand.

A nice walk but it was cold again.

We went out for lunch at The Orb in Margate. We had a Groupon voucher for a two course meal (£22 for two), Seeing as my starter of scallops was £8.95 and my Bass and mussels main course was £17.95 and Mal’s were about the same, what a bargain. The food was so good. They have an excellent chef and the waitress was lovely too. Having eaten there before we knew the dessert menu equates to about a million calories a portion, we both opted for starter and main!

Oh dear I look as though I have no teeth!

We were rather shocked to read on FB a message from Dawn that her husband Neil has had a heart attack. Mal and I attended their wedding at Bellapais Abbey. Wishing you a speedy recovery Neil.

We watched the Hammers v Spurs game in the evening. I was hoping Spurs would go top but sadly Hammers won, which of course pleased Mal.

Not such a nice day so a long walk through the woods which is drier than trekking over the fields.

Maybe direct flights will be coming to the TRNC. Who knows? That would be much nicer a shorter flight.

In the afternoon we took the car to Halfords at Westwood to have it serviced. It needed the brakes doing, they actually told us they would need sorting soon when we had the tyres replaced. We dropped the car off and they said they were way behind with their work, so we went off shopping. Mal bought two new pairs of shoes and two Tshirts. I couldn’t find anything! Both pairs of shoes were 40% off at Brantano as they are closing down.

We also found a set of two log baskets which were £40 reduced to £9 for the two.  So we grabbed them and then realised we had to carry them round with us! So we decided it was time for coffee in Dekks until they phoned to say the car was finished.

Having spent a life time not trusting garages I have to say Halfords appear to be OK.

In the evening we watched Happy Valley which seems to be the highlight of my TV week!

The sun was out very early and so we went to the beach at Minnis Bay. Thankfully the tide was right out.

A beautiful day but it was a bitter wind. Mal did a bit of pottering around in the greenhouse. Keeps him amused!

We took Ellie to Dereson wood. We haven’t been there for quite a while as all the ground has been so wet and muddy but it’s improving now. Just imagine this will all be bluebells before we know it.

Lou and Rhys invited us over for Mother’s Day but we won’t be here then, so they suggested that we go and have lunch today instead, so we had a lovely lunch and I was also given my presents and card. It seems ages since we have seen them, they all have such busy lives and as it was, neither River or Sol were there as they were working. Ellie liked it over there as she had their dog Roddy to play with.

Of course Rhys had to pull a funny face when I took a photo!
