A lovely walk in the morning, with the sun just starting to show through.

Mal went off to the alltoment. There is a lot of digging and weeding to do! I tackled some of the front garden. Mal now has Marion’s bug, runny nose, sore throat..wonderful!

It rained quite a lot overnight so we waited a little later to go for a walk around the orchards. Really, so many apples just dumped!

Autumn colours all around us and still the rabbits are running round.

As we were walking around we heard a really high pitched squeal and realised Ellie had a weasel (or a stoat) in her mouth. We think it nipped her as she kept licking her lips. She dropped it and it did look a little stunned but we made her leave it, poor thing.

Mal then went to his allotment to bring more goodies back and do some digging.

Meanwhile we have a lot of quince on the tree in the garden, so time to poach them! I love having all this fresh produce.

We ate some of the quince after dinner and they were so good  having been poached with a cinamon stick and vanilla.

Marion opted out of the early wet dog walk. It was raining when we left so I suspect a good move staying in, the fact she already has a cold.

I drove her to Canterbury station later as she was returning home. It was nice having her to stay. I hope she feels better soon and we don’t catch whatever it is she has. I called into Canterbury shops as I am thinking of volunteering for the Demelza charity shop. They told me they are desperate so I have an application form.

We watched the football, England, playing late afternoon. What can I say, we won the game but I feel there should have been more goals.

The three of us took Ellie to Minnis Bay. The tide was right out so we had plenty of beach to walk along.

Later Mal went to his allotment and Marion and I went into Margate to the Old Kent Market and all the retro shops. Half of Margate is looking very upmarket and the other half is awful!

Marion now has a stinking cold, she believes caught from friends of hers on Monday, so I guess she will be sharing that with us!

We took Ellie for a long walk around the orchards and then drove into Canterbury. A wander around the shops and then we had lunch in Chom Choms.

From there we went on to Petticoat Lane Emporium but that didn’t seem as good as it was the last time we visited.

We watched another film in the evening. Marion had a sore throat and the beginnings of a cold…..great!

We took Ellie out for a very long walk and then went to Howletts Animal Park for the day.  There was a really cold wind but it was OK when you were in the sun. Mal and I love it there and spend so long watching the animals. There weren’t many people visiting and one of the Education team, Emily, talked to us as we were standing watching the Red River Hogs and as often happens we find out so much about the animals when we chat to the staff.  One of the keepers who raised Arina , my favourite, the Siberian tiger, has now left the job but comes back every weekend to play with her!

We had a picnic lunch and had a really nice day. The only disappointment was the best ice cream parlour where they sell Kentish ice cream was shut! But we did buy a tub each right at the end but it’s not the same as the scoops!

In the evening we watched “The Beatles: 8 Days a week”. That really took the three of us back to years gone by. It was good but I guess we had seen most of it before!

We took Ellie out for a very long walk. It’s surprising how things change in only two weeks. The giant rhubarb at Preston Court has started to die off (until next Spring). They are now harvesting the cauliflowers, lots more fallen leaves in the woods and Ellie met up with her friends, including the horses.

My sister Marion arrived in the afternoon, so we collected her from Canterbury station. We all took Ellie for a long walk and then spent the evening going through our family tree, Mal having worked on genealogy. Together Marion and I remembered far more than we realised.
