We went to Wingham and walked around the orchards with Ellie. Most of the apples have now been picked. We still have a lot at home, which we have stored. Mal dug up some more potatoes from his allotment. He is now making plans to protect his food in both allotments as pigeons and rabbits seem to love it.

The potatoes make very good roast, which I cooked when Lou, Josie, Ollie and Oscar all came round for lunch. Rhys and the older boys were all working.  Of course we had to have apple crumble for dessert which the kids loved. I add cinnamon and raisins to mine and add ground almonds when I make the crumble.

We managed to catch the end of the Hammers v Chelsea game after they left. Mal was very happy with the score!!

First thing as always, Ellie’s walk and she loves it on the beach chasing all the birds.

We then packed up and drove home stopping at Gibsons on the way. I love that farm shop.

In the evening we went to see Richard Digance in Margate. Many years ago I used to go and see him in the folk clubs especially Hitchin. What a trouper, he was obviously not well but still carried on with a very good performance including ‘200 Remembers’ which I am sure will stir memories for my older readers!  Going to the theatre was one thing we really missed when we were in Cyprus.

The sun was out today after a rainy day yesterday.

Well, this is good news for us selling our house in the TRNC and we have a lot of land……half an acre!! I took this photo from David and Kenny’s when we were there. It just shows how secluded we are.

Off to Dungeness. It’s a really weird place but fascinating and quite bleak. As I said I left it too late to book a tour around Dungeness B Power Station but the whole area fascinates us. A lot of the houses are built around old railway carriages and there are also nice nature walks.

……..and this house, Prospect Cottage, was owned by the film director Derek Jarman. On the far side of the cottage part of John Donne’s, ‘The Sunne Rising’ is written in black lettering.

In the evening we found a lovely little Mexican restaurant in New Romney, Santa Fe. Very good food but neither of us could finish it all!

Out with Ellie and I can’t believe that so few people use Greatstone Beach opposite us.

Well, after our walk it started raining and didn’t really stop. We went to Dymchurch and had a walk around, I think in future we will just shut our eyes as we drive through. There is little here and our lunch was in the Ocean pub, expensive and really not worth it but Ellie enjoyed the lamb rump that I couldn’t eat because it was so tough!  I think they were concentrating more on their Halloween decorations than the quality of food!

 

On a previous visit to Dymchurch we ate somewhere else and that wasn’t good either. We’ll avoid it in future.

The rain stopped for another long beach walk early evening. Ellie is in her element.

Ellie is so funny, she usually sleeps next to  my side of the bed but of course there were three bedrooms to choose from but still she came next to me even though there was hardly any room, so half of her body was under the bed! I don’t know whether she had been kept in a kennel in her previous life but she seems to like squashing into small places.

We took her out for a long walk on the beach quite early and then back for breakfast.

We went to Romney Marsh Visitors Centre. Last time we visited it was only open Thursday – Sunday, so we were pleased to see that is now open every day of the week. There are really nice staff in there and we found the Wildlife Trusts book for identifying mushrooms, We had a long walk around there (dogs have to be kept on leads) and then it was so nice and warm we had coffee in the garden.

 

 

Lunch was in the garden at The Warren Arms. We have eaten there before and it is very good. They allow dogs in the bar but it was too nice to sit indoors. Ellie just lies by the table indoors or outside.

From there to New Romney as I had forgotten to take a brush for Ellie. Look what treatment she had at the Pet shop, lots of treats were given to her.

Early evening and back to the beach.What a long day.

No rain today, the weather forecast said so, so how come we were wet when we arrived home from our walk?!

We tried to book a tour around Dungeness Nuclear Power Station but hadn’t realised that you have to book 3 weeks ahead so they can carry out security clearance on you. That was the end of that idea!

Lunchtime we drove to New Romney where we have booked a caravan. This time they have given a 3 bedroom one, looks as though Ellie will have her own room!

We settled in and then walked Ellie along Greatstone beach which is opposite the caravan park. So much beach for Ellie to run along and it was empty!

Everything is so handy here. We booked because there was an offer on where dogs go free and for 4 days it was only £59 and that includes all the gas and electricity!! We had a walk up to the clubhouse and then decided rather than eating in there, we would get a Chinese take away.

It was really misty when we went for our walk. Ellie was happy as she saw her friend the pony.

We then took Ellie home and went to Brogdale Apple Festival. It was raining when we arrived but brightened up later in the day. We did the tractor ride for the guided tour and each time we go we find out something new. There are over 400 varieties of apple there and I have to say for the first time ever we didn’t buy any as we are a bit “appled out” being surrounded by orchards. They have lots of other fruit trees there as well and I have to say our quince in the garden look far better than theirs! It was a good day out once things had dried out.

They say this year is going to be the best apple harvest for 20 years. Apples everywhere! This area certainly is the “Garden of England”.
