Raining and so down to the woods with Ellie. As I mentioned yesterday, we are surrounded by apples. On the way to the woods we had breakfast….2 apples each! Rose Cottage have put apples outside and before the rain, the board said “Please help yourself.” They are so juicy.

The rain eased a little and so we carried on across the fields. Every day now there seem to be a lot of Brent geese settle on one of the fields. A local told us that they are encouraged to feed there and then there is a shoot. I hope not.

Sadly we have missed all the turtle nests in north Cyprus this year. The last one has been excavated this morning. They will be releasing the hatchlings tonight, 7pm at the Turtle Shack. There have been 50 nests this year.

I went out to the shed in the morning and discovered a pigeon just sitting outside of it. Mal picked the bird up and put it inside the shed so that it was away from cats but it wouldn’t walk or flap it’s wings so we guessed it was possibly tired/in shock or had crashed into something. We left it there all morning and it hadn’t moved but did start looking a bit brighter. By the afternoon we gave it some water and discovered it was ringed , so obviously a racing pigeon.  A little investigation on the internet and we found a pigeon racer in Shatterling. He owns Malibu Grains and so we said we would take it up there. He will now find out whose pigeon it us and contact them.

In the evening we went out to dinner to The Punch Tavern as Mal had a voucher for them. It was a pretty average carvery but ridiculously cheap!  It saved me cooking dinner!

We are very lucky to have a dense wood at the end of our road and a lot of trees on the way. This means we don’t get drenched taking Ellie for a walk! Yes, raining again but I am really not bothered  as we had too many years praying for rain.  As for lack of water in North Cyprus, now of course water is coming from Turkey. Just as we predicted, does north Cyprus really want to be held ransom over water if Turkey feels like it?

Rhys cleaned the carpet at Shatterling and then in the afternoon Mal and I went over to cut all the hedges. I think we had forgotten just how much hedge there was! I had the job of clearing it all and my yard broom broke in the middle of doing it! We then stopped off at Mal’s allotment to make sure his greenhouse was still standing! The “help yourself” fruit trees are so heavy with apples, we seem to be the only ones picking them. So many are just falling on the ground. We are surrounded by apples here and there are only so many ways you can cook them and only so many apples you can eat in a day!

It was raining when we woke up and as soon as it stopped we were out for a 2 hour walk. The sheep at the back took a real fancy to Ellie and started running with her the other side of the fence.

 

The Turkish lira is now 4.73 to the pound!

I went shopping, to get some more flea stuff for Ellie. Thankfully no ticks over here. I hated them in Cyprus.

In the evening we watched Hammers, the result pleased Mal, they won 2-0.

Out walking early. We always seem to meet someone, today it was Willow and his owner, so Ellie had a good chase around with him. People must think we are real scruffs as we always go out dog walking in old clothes, by the time we have got soaked from the fields and caught in bramble bushes, we are certainly not wearing our Sunday best! Also other dogs are pleased to see us and jump up.

I read this article about Akdeniz and was quite saddened by it. It is a beautiful beach. Perhaps there aren’t enough ex pats left to litter pick! Which reminds we are having one here in Preston, they have actually proved the tidier the village, that is the way it remains. We also tend to pick up MackyD containers which have been flung out of car windows and bin them. There’s quite a different mentality over there.

Talking of north Cyprus, I think we are both immune to the mozzies over there. Here is a very different story, I have 6 bites on one leg, one of which has turned rather nasty.

We spent the morning doing the gardening at Shatterling before our rental is up next Friday. Our old neighbour told us that Wingahm Widlfife Park has bought it. Well, they will acquire it far cleaner than it was when we moved in! All the cleaning inside is now complete except Rhys is going round this week to clean all the carpets, not that they are dirty but we want ALL our deposit back. Two more mozzie bites while we were there. One was just sitting on my arm sucking my blood!

The apples are waiting to be picked behind the cottage there, so I collected some windfalls. They are so delicious.

In the afternoon we watched Spurs win their first game of the season. Later  we watched Rod the Mod from Hyde Park. It was nice to hear a lot of the old numbers.

A long walk with Ellie before the rain started and then Lou and the littlies came round to visit.

We watched the football in the afternoon.

I just love our long walks in the morning. There are so many beautiful places around us.

We spent the rest of the morning with Mal doing the garden at Shatterling, the other house, and me cleaning inside and collecting the last few things we have left there. We still have more to do, another day.

In the evening we walked Ellie down to the pub and had fish and chips and a couple of wines. It’s a lovely friendly pub,

It was such a nice day we took Ellie to Minnis Bay. In fact we spent the whole morning down there, a long walk along the beach and then had a coffee in the garden of  the Minnis.

We had a quiet afternoon in the garden, Ellie was worn out after all her chasing around.
