I then went to Marcello’s to have my hair done. It’s never just to have my hair done, I have known him so long it turns into a real social event. He really is such a lovely man and raises money frequently for charities. The last event he did, he worked until 9 at night.
Thought for the Day – “Life always offers you a second chance. It is called tomorrow. Your life is a result of the choices you make….if you don’t like your life it’s time to start making better choices.”
It was pouring with rain when we usually go walking, forget that, so I walked Ellie when it eased off a little later on. We went into Wingham so that Mal could sign forms at Elgars so they can release our deposit and the rent we have overpaid. I didn’t go in, I may have said something to Kirsty who told us we could leave Shatterling any time and then changed her mind when we did leave! 3 months rent and 3 months council tax she cost us.
From there we went to Elgars field, yes the same Elgar! They have placed a commemoration plaque, naming it as a centenary field and there is also an oak tree planted there.
Mal dug some potatoes up, his Wingham allotment is next to Elgar’s Field and he also transplanted some cabbages which came from his other allotment.
He moderates for Cambridge Uni and has now passed the exam so that he can deal with appeals. He now has quite a large centre to get through.
Thought for the Day – “I believe we would be happier to have a personal revolution in our individual lives and go back to simpler living and more direct thinking. It is the simple things of life that make living worthwhile, the sweet fundamental things such as love and duty, work and rest, and living close to nature. There are not hothouse blossoms that can compare in beauty and fragrance with my bouquet of wild flowers. ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder
Off then to Westwood as I had to buy some things for various people to take to Cyprus, including toys for Loppi and Jekka. I also, in my search for a proper yard broom went to the ironmongers, Brills, in Birchington. Yes, actually wood nailed into wood without any plastic in sight and about the same price as I paid for the useless one with a plastic insert. A good thing there are still ironmongers around here.
Thought for the Day – “Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.” ~ C S Lewis
The sun was out so down to Minnis Bay. It was a bit breezy down there but a really nice walk followed by a coffee at The Windshack. The owner gives all the dog owners biscuits for their dogs. Ellie had hers and was then promptly sick on the floor! I had to do a quick clean up job! I don’t think she likes gravy bone biscuits.
We took Ellie home and then went to “Deal Dance Day”. It was surprisingly warm. Deal was packed and it took ages to find a parking space but the dancing was very good.
We watched the Murray brothers exciting match and a very tense West Ham game! They won! I do believe they are second in the league now.
Thought for the Day – “Two things define you. Your patience when you have nothing…your attitude when you have everything”
The Brent geese were on the field again this morning. Most days Ellie ignores them.
Every day there is a white bird with them. I am not sure what breed that is and why it is with the Brent Geese,
St Mildred’s Church yard is full of conkers, all over the ground. For any other dog owners please be aware….
We met Elgar Estate Agent at the Shatterling house. The final handover. It took two of them three quarters of an hour to inspect the inside. When I was Maintenance Manager I used to do it in half that time! Anyway, in the end they had to admit that the house was actually much cleaner than when we moved in. Well, I knew that but we were a bit desperate at the time and would have moved into anything with four walls and a roof. So, in spite of the fact we have a dog (which puts a lot of landlords off) we will be sent the full deposit back. Now we only have two houses to think about!
We watched Andy Murray in the afternoon playing in the Davis Cup. It was a little like an exhibition match.
Thought for the Day – “The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.” ~ Bob Marley
I think our walks in the morning get longer every day as we find new footpaths and new fields to cross! Two hours we were out this morning. Ellie just loves seeing all the horses, then she runs through muddy puddles and dashes around the woods chasing squirrels.
There were also lots more mushrooms/toadstools, some of them quite huge.
I went to Ramsgate in the search for a proper yard broom but they only had ones with plastic bits and that is what snapped on my last one. I didn’t find one. Mal spent the afternoon at his allotment making cages as the pigeons/rabbits are eating his produce.
I have found yet another recipe for using apples, apple meringue, it’s so quick and easy. I use the eating apples and then I don’t have to add sugar! We still have loads of apples. Next year I will be more prepared and save all my jars.
We watched a good win for Spurs in the evening.
Thought for the Day – “Life is simple. Everything happens for you, not to you. Everything happens at exactly the right moment neither too soon or too late. You don’t have to like it…..it’s just easier if you do.” ~ Bryon Katie
