The sun was out again but a very wet underfoot walk.

I was just about to get ready to go out when Landmark Estate Agents called saying they had someone who wanted to view our property. A quick wip round with the hoover and left the rest to Mal! I went off to Magarina Bulli for lunch with Sue. Just before I arrived at the restaurant, the phone rang and it was Landmark, the viewer had fallen in love with somewhere else and so would not be coming to our house! This is pretty typical of Landmark to give you just an hours notice!

It was quite busy in Magarina Bulli but then no surprise there as the food is just so good and good value if you like real Cypriot food. I had stuffed aubergine with rice and salad. You can choose whatever you would like from the counter. So, Sue and I had a lovely lunch. I arrived home and there were a Russian couple outside our gate asking if they could look around as they were interested in buying.  They seemed to like it. It must be the start of the house viewing season!

We wake up earlier and earlier, make a cup of tea and take it back to bed with the patio doors open looking down to the Med and listening to the birds singing and wait for the sun to come up…….magic. It was our dream and we did it. Then out for our walk amongst all the lovely wild flowers.

You can never be bored on the walks as every day we find something different. I think it was last Thursday I took a photo of a purple arum. I didn’t say at the time but just as I was going to photograph it, Ellie smelt it and rolled on it, so I had to prop it up for the photo. The following day we found some more in a different place and she ran towards them ready to do the same thing, we stopped her just in time but we are now intrigued what the odour is from them. It must be something pretty disgusting for her to want to roll over them.

Mal cut the lantana hedge, including Mustafa’s side. The butterflies were not impressed!

What a change by late afternoon, rain and very miserable weather while Rhys was sending me pictures of them in the sunshine on the beach at Botany Bay!!

Orchids seem to be everywhere we walk.

I went to Alsancak to post a birthday present to my friend in the UK and also had my hair cut at Nultan Oral. Their prices have gone up but that was expected with the exchange rate.

We were down at the beach very early. Ellie still won’t go in the sea but chased around the sand instead. We walked along the coast a little way until we hit army territory in both directions.

Saint Evlalios Church is 16th century, dedicated to the first bishop of Lambousa.

My niece Julie is taking part in the London Marathon today, her and two friends dressed as Ladybirds. Good Luck Julie. She left her house at 6.30am! Her number is 45628, so we can track her online.  We didn’t see them on TV but did track her all the way. They finished in 5 hours 19 minutes and 9 seconds. Not bad for a 42 year old GP’s wife and midwife and mother of 3 kids!! Well done. When did she find time to train?! Evidently she was sick at 20 miles and again at the end and was taken to the medical tent but she finished!!

Six months today since I smoked my last cigarette!!

We saw Kenny at the beginning of our walk. He is still suffering with his back. A long walk but Ellie still has to have her game of ball.

We then went to Lambousa Market. We left Ellie at home as the resident dogs are an unfriendly bunch. I think she has been used to being left as she often gets in her bed as we get ready to go out.

Very little news in Cyprus Today. As for the peace talks?? Once again they don’t seem to be progressing very well or are they??? Who knows.

A different part of the mountains today and Ellie found a new friend Sammy. While we talked to her owner the two dogs chased around and around after each other. I think they are just about worn out here.

I have to admit in all the years of looking at wild flowers in north Cyprus, I had never noticed the mandrake fruit before today! I think I should have studied botany, I am sure it would have been far more use than qualifications in Housing Studies and Counselling! Mandrake Fruit….about the size of a small apple…..

I found another big patch of orchids

Back home and more cleaning paths! Ellie dug her bone up again! Later I looked at her nose and she has scraped it all keep burying and digging up her bone. It does look sore.

Up early and another long walk round the mountains.

 

There is a huge patch of pyramidal orchids, some of which haven’t begun to flower yet.

Well, half of Ellie’s bone is buried somewhere in the garden, I think even she may have forgotten where. It wasn’t where I was weeding nor near the pampas, which tore my arms to shreds as I was getting all the “old stuff” out. I certainly wouldn’t risk burning it down in this country, might have the whole of Malatya alight.
