29 degrees forecast today, real feel 33, so up and out early for our walk.
St George’s Day for the UK and in the TRNC it is Children’s Day. Be warned the banks here and quite a few shops are closed. We went to the cash machine and there was money in it. It often runs out on Bank Holidays. Everywhere that we wanted to go was open, including the yapi market to buy some new bamboo sheets for the car port. 4 sheets were 180 tl.
The “talks”, oh my goodness, will they ever agree on anything? After 50 years, maybe not.
Another early long mountain walk before it became too hot.
“Paws for Thought”
How do the days go by so quickly? A couple of phone calls, OK quite long, a few emails, a small amount of gardening and time to cook dinner. Who are these people who ask if you get bored in retirement?!
I nearly missed one of the cactus flowers and they only last 24 hours! Beautiful!
Thought for the Day – “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough” ~ Oprah Winfrey
I must be getting so boring about the orchids but there are just so many, even a little fairy ring!….
You can see here how many are just starting to flower, at the moment a lot are still green….
I spent the morning cooking and David and Kenny came and joined us for lunch. It was really nice , lots of wine and sunshine as well and I even forgot to take a photo!!
Thought for the Day – “Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” ~ Marcel Proust
A nice sunny morning again, so another long walk. We had lots of photos of the Easter egg hunt in Beltinge (Rhys and co) Sooooo many eggs but there are 7 children there. They all phoned to thank us for the eggs we gave them and then Torin called to wish us a Happy Easter.
One way and another, the day just went!!
Thought for the Day – “‘Twas Easter-Sunday. The full-blossomed trees Filled all the air with fragrance and with joy.” ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow,
What a difference a day makes. We woke up to cloud and rain! No problem, but we had left all the cushions out on the chairs. We need the rain.
6.15am!!
We drove to the shops first to get some shopping and Cyprus Today and then on to the mountains and we managed to have a dry walk before the rain started again.
It was amazing the different shades and species of orchids we see while walking. They are everywhere and these are only a selection in a 2 hour walk!
I have to say some interesting articles in Cyprus Today……buy the paper if you want the full account of the shambolic BRS AGM. But the one that caught my eye was the article about the third dog show to be staged in the north by the south’s Cyprus Kennel Club and the fact that Hasan Behcet took his dog to the south for competitions. Can someone tell me how? In which case I can get Ellie a Pets Passport and fly back to the UK from the South regularly??????
I also had a chuckle about the Ministry of Health Offices who can’t even police the smoking ban in their own buildings.
I am reliably informed by Kenny that Ellie’s mark that comes and goes on her nose, is the chlorine in the water when she blows bubbles in the pool. He said he has even seen it in Scotland from tap water.
Karen, Scarlet and Jack are staying at our caravan this weekend and so the cousins are all together…………….

So lucky to have all these grandchildren!

A very long walk quite early again with Ellie. As it was Good Friday we then decided to go up to Green Heights. It’s a lovely place to sit and relax, nice music playing, we had a coffee and then decided to stay for lunch. If anyone who is reading this wants to go, the menu on the gate says that steak is 20tl. On the menu you are given inside, the steak is 32tl!! There were a few other prices on the gate menu that were wrong.
Ellie is fine left at home on her own, we have a feeling she was left a lot as we start to get ready to go out and she gets in her bed! When it is hot I think she prefers to stay at home in the cool.
Green Heights
Back home and Mal baked Hot X buns!!
Thought for the Day – “The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.” ~ Buddha
It will be interesting to see what Cyprus Today make of the BRS AGM. I hear it turned into something of a shambles. Just as well we have nothing to do with it.
We were up early and went straight out for a long walk as Ellie was full of energy.
I was quite horrified to read about dogs being poisoned in Fryent Country Park in Brent.
Mal trimmed all the plants down the drive.
A face painted Violet came on the webcam. She has been accepted for her chosen primary school and what a coincidence, the same school I went to (many moons ago!) Hazelwood in Palmers Green!!
