Mal emailed every email address we have for Multimax to ensure that our internet was on as soon as we arrive back in North Cyprus. We had given them this information when we went into their office before leaving but just to make sure!

In the morning we packed up again after having breakfast, said our goodbyes to Torin Scarlet and Jack and headed for the Stansted. We dropped the Avis car off at the airport, very speedy process as a “preferred” customer.

Our plane (Pegasus) appeared to be leaving on time, we were all sitting on board waiting and waiting and waiting…..eventually we were told they had to take off someone’s luggage! An hour we sat there!! A nice Turkish Cypriot gentleman sat next to Mal and explained a family member had messed up his ticket booking and he should be on that plane as far as Istanbul but tomorrow’s plane from Istanbul to Ercan but had been told his luggage would be going on to Ercan today. He was quite elderly and was not sure exactly what he should be doing.

So eventually we took off. A Turkish Cypriot “gentleman”, I use the term very loosely here, sat the other side of the aisle to us and started demolishing the contents of a bottle of Famous Grouse whiskey. He became louder and louder and eventually one of the stewards moved him to the window seat in front of me (great!) and told his friend to make him behave. Of course he didn’t! 3 hours 50 minutes of a drunken passenger in front of me, he hammered the seats, shouted abuse in Turkish. I was informed by a Turkish Cypriot lady that his languiage was foul.  I had intended getting some sleep, no chance.

We arrived at Istanbul and it was chaos. The crew put their coats on to leave the plane and so I asked the steward what he was doing about the drunken passenger. He replied that he, the steward, was leaving the plane!! I told him something had to be done about the drunkard and he said security had been called. So, we  all had to wait for security during which time he started hurling abuse to various Turkish Cypriots and a fight nearly broke out.

Finally after a long delay, security arrived and they managed to remove him from the plane in spite of his protests that he was travelling to Ercan….not tonight he wasn’t! We must have had about four head counts and ticket checks while we were waiting at Istanbul and in spite of all this, the man whose ticket from Istanbul was the following day,he  managed to stay on the plane without any query! It makes a bit of a sham of all their checks…well done Pegasus! NOT!!

Thankfully Chris was still waiting for us when we arrived very late at Ercan.  Our phones didn’t work and so Chris stopped at Ileli so we could top them up, we had been away too long, so they don’t work when you return. So, we didn’t get indoors until tomorrow! We tried the internet, to use Skype to tell family we had arrived safely……of course the internet didn’t work!  We went to bed exhausted.
