This may be of interest 10 Great Things to do in North Cyprus
In the afternoon we went into Margate. For my 60th birthday Mal bought me an antique diamond cluster ring from Cuttings, a long established jeweller in Margate. In fact it is the only place we buy jewellery. Mal bought my antique engagement ring there and then they made my wedding ring to match it. Anyway, one of the diamonds had fallen out and we are sure the receipt for the ring is in Cyprus and also it is 3 years since we bought it. So, we were prepared to go in and pay to have it replaced, no of course we didn’t find the diamond.
We called in there and maybe because we buy things from there a lot, they said they would replace it no problem and no charge. Yes, they did remember us and when I said I didn’t have the receipt they said no problem at all. The guy in there, probably the owner, then came out with a box which contained about 10 boxes . He opened just one of the boxes which was full of sparkling diamonds and casually said they were worth about £10,000!! So, yes he had a spare one to fit. I don’t know any other jewellers that would be so accommodating. No wonder they have been established for so many years. They make jewellery, alter it and also sell antique as well as new. It is a jewellers well worth a visit if you are ever in Margate. Well done Cuttings!
From there we had a wander around Margate and really are impressed by the new shops that are opening and it is becoming a more “up market” town. Then into the Wig and Pen and had a couple of drinks while watching Wimbledon.
Upstairs in The Wig and Pen, there is a Thai restaurant, Bow’s Kitchen, where we had booked to have dinner. Very good it was too! Tim, the owner was really nice and we decided to have his recommendations…delicious.
From there we walked to the Winter Gardens to see the comedian Al Murray, The Pub Landlord. He was so funny and really is a very clever man and it is obvious he has a terrific memory. He is an Oxford Graduate. Go and see him if he is in your area! An excellent night. He does involve the audience and had a girl named Pepper up on stage. Mal had taught Pepper years ago and said she had always been such a quiet girl in class but she did well on stage.
We then got a taxi back to the caravan.
