The day Torin leaves. That is the main problem with living so far away from family, it’s lovely to have them visit but very sad when they leave and will be a couple of months until you see them again.

He was going to Larnaca to spend the last couple of days on the island with Maddie and her children as they rented an appartment there.

I know Torin enjoyed his stay with us because he kept saying so. He needed the down time as he had not been well and had also lost 2 stone. He reckoned that he had put on a stone while he was staying here. Well, that is what mums do isn’t it? He had a cooked breakfast every morning by the pool followed by a big lunch and dinner and crisps in between. He certainly found his appetite from somewhere and he was eating even faster than Mal and that is saying something! I think they were in competition and Mal enjoying every minute of having things we don’t normally eat (fried breakfasts etc!)

Ozy came and collected Torin on time and took him to the address in Larnaca which was probably more difficult to find and no extra charge.see link  Following Robin’s accident on his journey from Larnaca airport in a taxi, it was refreshing to discover that there are some careful taxi drivers here. I complain when we get bad service so credit where it is due.

It all seemed very quiet after he had gone. Still, at least he has recharged his batteries and filled his stomach.

Me and my boy (one of them anyway)

Thursday 1st September 2011

In the morning we took Torin to Bellapais. In spite of the number of times he has visited, he hasn’t seen much of the island, always preferring to chill by the pool. He took a lot of photos while we were there.

I went to the ticket office to buy three tickets and he said they were NINE tl each. We went a few weeks ago with Steve and Shirley and it wasn’t that much! I told him as much and he asked where we lived so we said Malatya and he replied “OK, three and a half lira”. That is a huge difference so anyone going to the tourist spots, remember to tell them you live here!

We sat and had a drink in the ‘Tree of Idleness’ and left just before the coaches full of tourists came flooding up the hill from the car park.

In the evening, as it was Torin’s last night we wanted to go somewhere nice and in the end decided on Silver Rocks. A good thing we went fairly early as they asked if we had booked, which we hadn’t and still had a table next to the sea. The service was excellent in spite of the fact they were so busy. I had tournedos a la creme, Mal the mixed kebab and Torin beef stroganoff which he said was the best he had tasted. Torin also said it was the biggest portion he had ever had. All portions were huge and along with our mains, salad, chips, roast potatoes and vegetables!  Torin said the brandy sour was good as well. I didn’t try it as I was driving! So a very good choice of venue.

We came home and we were all so full. In fact Torin dropped off to sleep under the terrace!
