I bought Cyprus Star in the morning and each week there is an article entitled “Pets at the Vet’s.”  This weeks subject was about Leishmania. It is caused by sand flies. I understood a lot of people here have bought Paraband collars for their dogs to keep the sand flies away.

I quote from the vets article:

“Paraband collars which are available, do not work for sand flies. He says he has spoken to the manufacturer of the Paraband collars who confirmed that they are just for ticks and fleas and do not work for flying insects and therefore have no repellent effect on them.”

Interesting!

The building work was still going on behind David and Kenny. I fear it will be going on for a long time. It is the Europa site which came to a standstill a long time ago. All sorts of rumours as to why but I really don’t know what the truth was. It will be good when it is all finished. At least this time they appear to be building retaining walls for when the rains come.

I went shopping in Ileli. I have noticed how prices are creeping up. A kilo of local butter is 17.95tl in Ileli but has risen to over 20tl in Starling. Cyprus Today see link. The price of petrol has also risen and is now 3.00tl for a litre. It doesn’t seem 5 minutes since the last petrol increase.

Almost every week I am sent offers to North Cyprus from Travelzoo. This weeks is for November and December, £289 for 7 nights half board, including flights and transfers and staying at the 5 star Malpas Hotel. see link

In the evening we met up with Christa and Robin and had a meal at Haci Ali. A good meal but we hadn’t realised it was ‘Elvis night’.

It was little Oscar’s first day at nursery school. He was very excited about it and loved his school uniform and kept saying thank you for his uniform. I guess all his brothers had one and he didn’t up until now. Bless him. I should imagine Josie wondered where everyone had gone.

Mal helped David and Kenny with their new laptop whilst I cleaned the whole house. I really do get fed up with all the dust getting in everywhere, not helped by the building that is going on, or should I say ‘moving mountains’.

Doc Martin is back on the TV for a new series so we watched that in the evening.

I seem to be getting through a lot of books since I have had my Kindle. I think I made them last longer when I had to bring paperbacks from the UK! I have just finished ‘Water for Elephants.’ Quite a surprise ending. I think it has been or is being made into a film but they never seem to live up to the books in my opinion.

A day of more  gardening. It’s still hot and so can only be achieved in small bursts. Mal was spending his day “doing” web sites. It keeps him amused. Of course he is learning all sorts of new skills but I know mine will be the last to be updated! I’m not complaining as along with altered web sites, come new changes and then I would have to learn them!!

We have decided to give Rosie her pain killers every day as I really can’t stand her hopping around on three legs and being in pain. At least I will have her bio flow collar to try out soon.

Sunday 11th September 2011

Apart from the hunters we had a really nice peaceful day. Swimming and reading. I read so many books, it is just as well I have a Kindle now.

Talking of the hunters they were far too close again. In fact I was sitting under the terrace and shot landed at my feet. That is just crazy. I jumped up to see where they were but obviously a quick blast and on their way so it would have been pointless calling the Police.

Torin, Scarlet and Jack came on the web cam in the afternoon and then we had a long phone call to the boys n Cardiff, all back at school now and enjoying it.

Cyprus Today see link. Great! A freezer full of food and they are talking about a black out on Monday. A bit ironical as we seem to be supplying the South too!

It was a hot day and very humid, one of those days you can’t be bothered to do anything unless you managed it first thing in the morning!

We were invited to David and Kenny’s for a BBQ and very delicious it was too. Res, Steve and George came too. It was really nice to see George before he starts university in the UK. Good luck George, I feel sure he doesn’t need it and will have a great time.
