I went to buy Cyprus Today see link

The rest of the day gardening and in the pool. We are on water rationing as always this time of year, so the plants are all looking rather parched.

Tuesday 23rd August 2011

I reminded you all about the meeting at Pia Bella. Mal and I went along. No air con working in the meeting room. We had to ask for fans and windows to be opened. Then, about 100 people duly seated,  were told the meeting would not begin until the Ada TV crew arrived. We had all managed to be prompt but were told to wait. It then became clear who was more important. Certainly not the audience.

An introduction in English in that space of time would have been nice but no, many remained clueless as to who the four gentlemen were sitting in front of us.

We then all sat and listened to the Ada TV broadcast in Turkish, followed by a very short interpratation, which if correct I doubt the TV audience found interesting, because I didn’t!

My comments can be seen at the end of this see link

Who are they??!!

Monday 22nd August 2011

Mal and I drove Rosie to the mountains and let her have a little run around with the ball. Of course she can no longer manage the long walks but up there her tail does not stop wagging. She loves it but we have to be careful she doesn’t overdo it. She does go a bit crazy at times.

There is a newish hairdressers open in Karaoğlanoğlu. It has been opened by Hasan, a Turkish Cypriot who left in ’72 and went to Chicago, where he was very successful. The salon is called Chicago Hair Club and it is where the old Occasions card shop was. I have to say he is very good and an added bonus, Monday’s is 20% off day (for the over 60’s).  I had a shampoo, with massage, cut and blow dry. The cost (with 20% off) 54tl which I thought was very reasonable. All the prices are listed at reception. They also do manicures and pedicures. I shall be going back! Tel: 0392 822 4410

In the evening David and Kenny came over for a meal. They brought Rosie a huge chewey bone….she ate the lot. Oh dear won’t do much for her trying to lose weight. We had a really nice evening.

Don’t forget the meeting at Pia Bella Tuesday 23rd August at 3.00pm see link

Sunday 21st August 2011

Hot again and just as we like it, a very lazy Sunday! Lots of time in the pool.

Mal brought back a halogen cooker from the UK and so he used that and cooked us Sunday dinner. It’s very good, a whole Sunday roast including vegetbles and roast potatoes, all in one pot!

Of course Rosie was still up for her walks.

Saturday 20th August 2011

As yesterday the heat has increased today 33 degrees in the shade.

I went to Ileli to buy some shopping and Cyprus Today see link. I did notice that alcoholic drink prices are on the rise. 3.95tl wine is now 4.45tl and 5.95tl is now 6.95tl. I grabbed an extra bottle of Pimms before the price of that goes up! 32tl is cheaper than carrying it back from Duty Free!

As for Cyprus Today, ‘food poisoning hits a third of diners’. I really am not surprised in this weather. As Mal mentioned, the fridges and freezers in the supermarkets are not even kept up to the temperatures they should be. He is always checking our fridge and freezer temperatures. The other article that caught my eye was the one on Mare Monte being demolished and  the planned cable car “to the mountains”, vast shopping centre and even a zoo. So, I guess our house price will now escalate with us being so close to all these facilities! Maybe I could use the cable car to get my shopping!

It was 34 degrees in the shade at 5.00pm.

In the evening we went to the Black Olive for ‘Open Mic’ night. Ingrid had a table full of supporters and this time did get up and sing and very well she did too.  Well done Ingrid! As usual a good night at the Black Olive. Thanks too, to Vicki who makes everyone feel very welcome.

Friday 19th August 2011

Please don’t forget the important meeting next Tuesday at Pia Bella 3.00.pm see link.

The ‘girls’ met up for lunch again at Haci Ali. The setting is perfect but lunchtime service left a lot to be desired on this occassion. I can honestly say that it was not because they were busy. There was no one else in the restaurant whilst we were waiting for our drinks order to be taken. OK a couple of people by the pool below but that was all.  When our meal came there were no condiments or serviettes on the table and when ordering Turkish coffee we had to ask for the water to accompany it. I could go on but suffice to say, we won’t be lunching there again, time for a change of venue. I am sure evening service is better but I speak as I find. We didn’t leave a tip, that would be for good servcie and we didn’t get it!

We had a visitor in the kitchen and later another one…tiny frogs. I haven’t a clue where they came from.

What better than eating fresh figs for breakfast, straight off  our  own tree?! Delicious.

Interesting see link . I don’t know who these people are but we will be going to see if their efforts come to fruition. They deserve at least one meetings support from all of us regardless whether we have a problem or not. Last years candle lit vigil was very poorly supported. Hopefully this will be supported by many.
