21st Feb 2011

Pauline and Chris came round in the morning. Mal sorted out Pauline’s e-reader and gave her 56 books to keep her going! She told us that Asda are now doing an e reader for £50. I think I will have to get one soon and then Mal won’t have to fill his pockets with 10 books  for me as he had to do this time coming back from the UK.

In the evenings all we can hear is the chorus of frogs croaking away. They are so noisy, I guess the next thing will be the cicadas starting up!

The almond blossom is out on all the trees.

I was woken up at 2 in the morning with the rain lashing down. By the time we got up it was still raining but we took Rosie to the beach and by the time we got there it had stopped. There was a beautiful rainbow when we arrived home.

19th Feb 2011

Not such good weather but we are still in February. We managed a dry walk with Rosie but it was very windy. I went to Ileli to buy Cyprus Today see link. Not much news in there.

Mal chopped up a lot of wood which I had discovered was too big for the log burner.

Manchester United just about beat Crawley in the FA and Chelsea lost to Everton!

It is still a bit chilly in the evenings and Rosie has prime position in front of the log burner.

18th Feb 2011

We had the most amazing sunny, warm day (for February). Mal and I went out to pay our house insurance and confirm that the leak in our wall has been repaired. Now that is done we can have the inside wall repaired. We use Steve Dickinson for all our insurance and he has been excellent.

From there on to Home Essentials to buy a new airer. This time I have bought a plastic one (50tl) as the metal ones goes rusty if you put damp washing on it. Goodness knows how many of these I have bought since I have lived here, they just all seem to fall apart.  We also bought two new chairs for outside as the sun ruins them. (75tl each). As we were driving past I bought some shopping in Starling. I was given 18 kurus short in my change, which is why I go in there very rarely. I told the girl the money was short, she just did the ‘Cyprus shrug’, opened her till and gave it to me! No wonder I tend to stick to Ileli for my shopping, a totally different attitude where they value your custom.

In the afternoon Ingrid asked me to go round for coffee and cake. Ingrid makes the most delicious cakes. It was nice to catch up with her. I think we all hibernate in January!

17th Feb 2011

It was a dry day and so we took a long walk in the mountains.  More pine cones for the fire!

Later I went over to see Lena as it was her birthday…Happy Birthday Lena. I had coffee and some delicious chocolate and strawberry cake that Ingrid had made. I think Ingrid has missed her vocation, she makes the most delicious cakes.

I painted some furniture, making the most of the good weather.

16th Feb 2011

Mal was supposed to be helping David and Kenny with some computer ‘stuff’ in the morning. What happened? We had a power cut all morning.  Mal had been clearing out some drawers and found a lot of old home made DVD’s. We watched one on the laptop, it was February 2002 when we had just bought the land and it was both of us getting really excited and we took views of our surroundings. Nothing except our land and the few old houses in Malatya. How things have changed.

When the power did come back after lunch, he went over to David and Kenny’s. We had some rain and a bit of sun. I spent the rest of  the day covering a chair.

I bought Cyprus Today, much the same as the weekend see link.

15th Feb 2011

We woke up to rain. I am not complaining as we need it for the summer drought! We took Rosie for a wet walk, she wasn’t that impressed. We are living in the clouds today.

Later we went for a wander around Girne and saw the ‘rubbish turtle’ and then went to have our meal at The Rocks Hotel. Picture is Mal studying the menu…..spoilt for choice! An excellent meal.
