8th January 2010

We were both due to go to Mal’s middle son’s (Tris) wedding but as I felt so rough again Mal decided it would be better to go on his own and me stay in the warm.  Mal was also supposed to be going to an exam meeting in Coventry afterwards but that had been cancelled because of the bad weather. Mal didn’t stay long for fear of later trains stopping running out of London.

Every good wish for your future happiness together Amanda and Tristan.

Another bad night again and so Mal called the doctors to make an appointment for me, hoping that we would manage to get to Minster following the dump of snow we had.  We managed to get to Minster, the main roads were not too bad but side roads were not good.  The doc listened to my chest, checked ears and everything and said that I have laryngitis. He also recommended a throat spray called Difflam Spray, which I have to say is very good. I also have to carry on with the Beechams etc.

We stayed in and kept warm the rest of the day. We did have some more snow but not too bad.

6th January 2010

Mal set the alarm for several times during the night to give me my tablets  as each morning I have woken up in pain with my throat.

I know the weather has been really bad in other areas of the country and I think Mal and I may have taken leave of our senses but a couple of days shut in was more than enough for us. One of my favourite places in the area was always Howletts Zoo, where I took the grandchildren on numerous occassions. John Aspinall started the zoo for endangered species and we always saw him out feeding the animals and he would always pass the time of day with you. Sadly he died in 2000 but one of his sons has continued his good work. So, Mal and I decided to go to the zoo for a mooch round, as long as we wrapped up warm, we felt the exercise would do us good.  We paid at the entrance and were warned that some of the animals had more sense than us and were not out in their paddocks! It was lovely going round there again. We didn’t stay too long but then drove into Canterbury and went to Cafe Rouge for lunch.  By the time we got home I went back to bed again. I was in bed listening  to the snow falling on the  caravan roof!

It was so cold in the night, minus 4, that it woke us up (plus me coughing) and Mal put the heat on and found my medicene. I ended up the rest of the morning in bed, keeping warm and being dosed up.

Decided the best thing to do was just rest!

Here are some photos of Torin’s dogs that I forgot to put on the previous day! Little and Large or as they are really known, Brodie and Boo.

I spent most of the morning in bed as I still felt ill. Torin did offer that we stay there another night rather than coming back to the cold caravan but we had a lot of things to sort out.

We gave Scarlet and Jack their lunch and then Mal and I drove back to Margate. The weather is usually milder in Thanet but not on this occassion as the car thermometer went to minus 1 degree. We went to get some shopping whilst the caravan warmed up and also decided to have our dinner at the local Harvester.

3rd January 2010

Sadly it was time to leave Cardiff, the boys and our newest member of the family. I was still not well but we headed off to Biggleswade.

More fun with grandchildren, this time with twins Scarlet and Jack in Biggleswade. They have grown so much since we saw them last and are now real individual characters.  After their tea Torin and I bathed them both and off they went to bed. They go about 6.30pm and wake at 8.00am…..how good is that??!!

Torin cooked dinner but I was still struggling with my throat.

2nd January 2010

I had a really bad night coughing and spluttering and so Mal went out to buy some more medicene. The local pharmacy was shut so he went to another one and then got lost on the way back! He really is hopeless at directions.

In the evening we watched a film with the boys.
