Maggie & Mal's Adventures in North Cyprus, the UK and Beyond
Christa and Robin are in the TRNC at the moment and invited us for a Bratwurst BBQ. They also invited Bev and Gary and their three grandchildren, Calum, Paige and Gracie. I haven’t seen Bev for a long time as she has been needed in the UK (Get well soon Clare!) We had a lovely afternoon with plenty of Bratwurst. Just love the hat Gary!

Another lovely walk in the mountains first thing in the morning and more cones collected for the BBQ. Mal always carries them home hanging from a stick over his shoulder!
Later Mal gave instruction to the Kibris Line Dancers how to manage their website while I carried on weeding the garden and collecting snails……to move them elsewhere!
In the afternoon we went into Girne to do some shopping. We had previouly been to the gift shop in Edremit (Hello Basket shop 0392 822 3154) looking for a hand painted bird to go with our butterflies to hang on the wall. She said that she would get some for us and would ring when they were in. Only a couple of days and she called us, so we stopped there on the way back and bought one. Really good service in this shop and reasonable prices. We often go in there as she has all sorts of pottery, killims, baskets and lots of other things.

Well, a surprise for us when we woke up, black clouds and a rainbow! So, we took Rosie straight out before the rain caught up with us. We did get a little wet on the way back but it soon passed over. All this rain is certainly making the snails thrive. They are everywhere you go in our garden and as we walked just up the road, the verges at the side are covered in them.
It was Rhys’s birthday so we spoke to him. He was looking forward to the Man U match in the evening AND Rooney was playing. Man U scored 2 goals in the first 6 minutes, I kept getting text from Rhys, a very happy birthday boy! Sadly the game was decided on the away goal rule and Man U are out.

Following the power cut the previous night we spent the entire morning without internet. Having said that, it was surprising how much was accomplished in the absence of internet! I emptied my mountain of ironing that was in the basket, weeded some of the garden and made a quiche!
Mal has been creating a website for Kibris Line Dancers. It is not complete yet, but on its way. They are a registered charity so he doesn’t mind doing it for them.
www.kibrislinedancesociety.com Mal offered a while back to create websites for any charities in the TRNC, free of charge and NO ONE replied. What a missed opportunity! At least KLD now have one.
Another power cut in the evening but it didn’t last too long.

In the UK, it would be Bank Holiday Monday, so we decided to take a drive to Karmi. If we stay in we always find something to do! It was a lovely day and Karmi is a really pretty preaceful village. We had a long wander round and then thought it would be nice to have a beer or two. Yes, we would have done but the Crows Nest is only open in the evenings!
Just when you think the days of power cuts have disappeared, we had one in the evening, right in the middle of a film we were watching.

Easter Sunday and because of that we decided to do very little and actually used our new sunbeds for the first time!
On our walk in the morning we found some pyramidal orchids. We also saw another hoopoe (bird!)
Later, we had a very long chat with Ollie on the webcam. Rhys and Lou and the littlies are staying at the caravan for a break and seem to be enjoying themselves, out for lunch, down to the beach and the zoo the next day.

Mal and I went to Lambousa in the morning. We went back for some more tile plaques as the ones we bought last week look so nice up that we decided to buy more. We stopped at Starling on the way back and I was short changed by 53 kurus. I guess they think tourists are here and they can try it on. Not with me, as usual I created at the till until she gave me the correct change, no apology, nothing just a very begrudging handing over of the rest of my change.
In the afternoon we watched the Chelsea v Man U game. Chelsea won 2-1 but Drogba was OFF SIDE when he scored his goal!
In the evening we were taken out to dinner by Pauline and Chris at Silver Rocks. On the way to the restaurant we drove throuhg Alsancak and there was quite a carnival atmosphere with olive branches all over the road, yes we had to drive over them and drums beating. Obviously pre election hype.
Well, I don’t think I have laughed so much for a long time during our meal out. The food was very good and the company was excellent. Thank you Pauline and Chris for such an amusing night out.
