3rd March 2010

Mal and I went out early with Rosie and along the new ‘river’ and decided to explore a little more to see what damage the floods had done. I think we went just a bit too far when I ended up sinking in mud up to my knees. I have to say I panicked and Mal laughed and then he had to yank me out, not easy as I was still sinking! AND no, I wouldn’t let him have the camera!

We bought the Midweek edition of Cyprus Today and the headline was “Who’s to Blame?” They say the authorities have allowed properties to be built in riverbeds and flood plains. President Talat said ‘greed’ was to blame. I found the Muhtar of Karaoglanoglu’s comment at the end of the article interesting “You can’t even fence your garden without permission. I don’t understand how these people get permission to build in riverbeds”.

Quite true, I recall sheds being roped off and all sorts of minor “rules” but the important ones???!

Having heard the new river down in the ravine, we decided to put our boots on and go and investigate. Quite honestly we could not believe it. I found a picture of exactly the same place before the floods to show what devastation has been caused. Difficult to believe I know! Rosie loved it jumping in and out of the new river. Mal and I had a bit more difficulty climbing along the walk.

and after!!

Rosie enjoying the sun once more!

SUN!! We were up early and our large Persian rug that was wet owing to the water coming in the living room was thrown over the terrace to dry in the sun. A big clear up indoors following days of Rosie’s mud and us dripping everywhere.
